Barbara Jean Smith

Barbara Jean Smith, daughter of the late William C. Small and Nellie Mae White, was born on March 7, 1938 in Daytona Beach, Florida. She departed from third life on April 28, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She received her education at Bonner Elementary and Campbell Senior High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. Upon completion of her education, she married her high school sweetheart, Howard Smith, and out of this union six children were born in Daytona Beach, Florida. She later in life moved to Baltimore, Maryland with her six children. Her employment began with a full-time nurses aide position at the Paradise Nursing Home and other local nursing homes in the Baltimore area. She was also very fond of children and decided to provide day care services to children in the neighborhood, he grandchildren and children of close friends to the family. She liked doing it so well that she quit her job to continue working with children until she became ill. Barbara made numerous friends in her hometown (Dayton) and in Baltimore, Maryland. She loved to travel, cook for family and friends at gatherings, read good books, go shopping (especially in the Thrift Stores) and play Bingo. She was loved dearly by her grandchildren and friends from wherever she went. She was loved dearly by her grandchildren and friends from wherever she went. She was a devoted mother of six daughters, making sure always that they had the best of everything. “Bobbi” will be sincerely missed by all of us. She was always great company to be in and always in good spirits with a million-dollar smile on her face. She is survived by: her only sister, Tammie Swain; ex-husband, Howard Smith; stepfather of children, Britten Williams; her six dauthters, Stephanie Smith, Brenda Baskin, Cheryl Smith, Iris Smith, Chandra Teel and Rhonda Smith; one son-in-law, David Baskin, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Maya Smith, Romanique Smith, David Baskin Jr.; Brandon Baskin, Kevin Teel Jr., Sade Baskin and Sydney Smith; first cousins, Carolyn and Min. John Christian, Patricia and Bishop Robert Pullen, Ronnie Albert, Toni and William Lockhart, George Duncan and Sarah Reynolds; best friend. Helen Perkins; and a host of relatives and friends from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Pittsburgh.
