Barbara Ann Evans-Avent

Barbara Ann Evans was born on October 25, 1938 in East Orange, New Jersey to the late James Allen Evans and Juliette Marie Scott. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Allen Evans. Barbara departed this life on March 20, 2015. At an early age, Barbara accepted Jesus and became a member of the First Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey where she sang on the choir and was a member of the Usher Board. Barbara received her formal education in the New Jersey Public School System, graduating from East Orange High School in 1956. She studied business management while attending college. Barbara met and married Samuel Thomas Carter in 1958 and later moved to Guilford in Howard County, Maryland. From this union, three children were born; Gardnel, Kimberly and Wendy. Barbara eventually joined the First Baptist Church of Guilford where she sang on the Gospel Chior and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Ministry. She enjoyed picnics with the family, long drives, watching wrestling as well as having passion for caring for animals. Barbara was an exceptional cook, making it her #1 hobby, taking pride in baking for the holidays and providing her family with their favorite individual cakes and pies. Barbara loved watching game shows. She was also a great dancer and loved to listen to music. From the union with the late Bryant Horton III a lovely daughter, Victoria Horton, was born. Barbara married Gene Avent in 1992. Barbara absolutely adored her family and did all in her power to make sure she provided a very happy and healthy environment for them. Barbara worked at Hecht Company as a Sales Manager for ten years. She also worked at Brown's/Big B's as a Lead Baker for 17 years. Barbara retired from her career as a Baker and then graduated from the Visiting Nurses Association where she worked as a private duty nurse until she became ill. Barbara was a member of Eastern Methodist Church and a honorary member of the Reunion Choir of Baltimore. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: four devoted children, Gardnel Carter (Shashana), Kimberly Carter, Wendy Johnson (Allen) and Victoria Horton-Hagan (Frank); one adopted son, Edward Fitzgerald (Chris), nine grandchildren, Twan Carter Sr. (Monique), Andre Carter, Jakia Stocks, Brandon Carter, James Pack Jr., Eric Pack, Shemeeka Johnson, Allen Johnson, Roy Stocks; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Lucy Whitworth and Mary Falls; multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
