Axcie B McDaniel

Axcie Beatrice McDaniel was born on May 16, 1936 as the fourth child to the late, Reverend William H. Sessoms and Florence B. Sessoms in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She entered into sweet eternal rest on July 29, 2023. At a young age, Axcie was introduced to Christ and became a baptized member of Whiteville Grove A.M.E. Zion Church and later joined St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She was a member of a gospel singing group, traveling across North Carolina sharing her talents. In Baltimore, Maryland, she became a member of Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served in the Busy Bee Club and the Women’s Home and Oversees Missionary Society (WHOMS). She was educated in Elizabeth City Public Schools. Axcie briefly resided in Brooklyn, New York before relocating to Baltimore, Maryland. She was a faithful caregiver, working for Keswick Nursing Care Center and later a dedicated Domestic Assistant, providing love, care and support to families. It was in Baltimore where she met and married the love of her life, the late Mynus “Sonny” McDaniel. The best friends were married for fifty-seven years. Axcie was a devoted wife and a devoted mother to six children. She was preceded in death by two sons, Samuel Sessoms and Ken McDaniel and one daughter, Diana McDaniel. Axcie was loving, caring and resilient. Family was her first love, as she spent quality time with her husband, children, grandchildren and siblings. She enjoyed yearly trips to Atlantic City with her husband, attending yearly retreats with her sisters, playing cards with family and friends and attending family reunions. Axcie was known for her whit, sharing funny jokes with those in her presence. She was also well known for her famous dishes, especially cabbage, potato salad, oatmeal and pig’s feet. She will truly be missed by all. The memories of Axcie are numerous. Axcie leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Linda McDaniel of Baltimore, Maryland; two sons, James McDaniel (Yvonne) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Kirk McDaniel (Cynthia) of North, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Gail “Donielle” Sessoms, Tarsha McDaniel, Anthony Felder, Amber Lesane, Candice Hill (Terrell), Yvonne McDaniel and James McDaniel; nine great-grandchildren, Rodney Butler, Nyheir Davis, Terrell Hill, Jr. (Kayla), Ajwaun McDaniel, Cori Hill, Trevon Hill, Summer Felder, and Malachi Felder; three great-great grandchildren, Kaylei Butler, Kiera Hill and Ke’Aire McDaniel; one brother, Paris Sessoms; two sisters, Phylis Shelton and Diana Good; three sisters-in-law, Myrell Theresa Sessoms, Barbara Sessoms and Elaine Sessoms; one brother-in-law, Timothy Shelton, Sr.; two special cousins, Barbara Artis and Ruth Toland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
