Avon B. Mack Sr.

Today we assemble to acknowledge and celebrate the new life unto which Avon B. Mack, Sr. has entered. Avon has entered into eternal life in the presence of His God and Lord, his creator. “… A Time to be Born”—Ecclesiastes 3:2 Avon Burdett Mack, Sr. was born January 9, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the third child of the late Donald Mack, Sr. and Mary Brooks Mack. He was a caring, warm, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. “… A Time to be Trained”—Proverbs 22:6 Mack as he was affectionately known was a product of the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Lake Clifton High School in 1975. There he was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball. “… A Time to be Saved”—John 30:3 He began his spiritual training at an early age and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church under Rev. Maxwell Johnson. As an adult he continued his spiritual walk at United Baptist Church. “… A Time to Love”—Ecclesiastes 3:9 On July 14, 1979 Avon B. Mack and Antoinette Richards entered into holy matrimony. From this union Avon B. Mack, Jr. and Ashley C. Mack were born. “… A Time to Labor”—Genesis 3:19 Avon began his career at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1975 where he worked as a Pharmacy Technician until he started his career at The Maryland State Police in 1978. During his tenure with the State Police he rose through the ranks as Corporal, Sergeant and First Sergeant. He retired on August 1, 2004 as a First Sergeant. After retiring he returned to the Maryland State Police on August 4, 2004 as the agency’s first Salvage Inspector where he worked until his untimely death. “…A Time to Laugh and Dance”—Ecclesiastes 3:4 Avon had a love for fishing on his boat, spending time with his family and friends at the Outer Banks, planning trips and family cruises, but most of all spending time with his community family at the Rusty Nail. “… A Time to be with the Lord”—Numbers 23:10 Avon Burdett Mack Sr. went home to be with Jesus, his parents who preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Antoinette Mack; son, Avon Mack, Jr. (Shawnte); daughter, Ashley Mack; one granddaughter, Anye; one brother, Donald Mack, Jr. (Marsha); two sisters, Gloria Eaddy and Guila Creek; mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Alma Richards; brothers-in-law, Louis Richards (Marguerite), William Richards (Denise) and Dr. Ken Richards (Jana); one aunt, Gwendolyn Andrews; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
