Audrey Mapp Carter

AUDREY ELIZABETH MAPP CARTER was born on August 17, 1923, to the late John Fielden Mapp Sr. and Lilla B. Criddle Mapp. Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She married to the late James W. Carter and had one daughter from this union, Eileen Tuana Carter Magruder. Audrey was educated in Washington, D.C. public schools where she graduated from Dunbar High School Class of 1942. Audrey has several jobs, however she retired from the Department of Air Force at the Pentagon after many years of service. She joined the Temple Hills Baptists Church in 1979. Her love for God was very important to her and it showed in her life. She was a member of the J.O.Y. Group (Just Older Youth), served in the Temple Hill Baptist Church's Treasury Department, participated in Women's Sunday school class for a number of years, volunteered in the hospitality ministry, the Missionary, Bible Study and Vacation Bible school. She was the oldest member of Temple Hills Baptist Church. During her leisure time, Audrey was very active in social clubs such as the Pixies, which was made up of her childhood friends and a card playing club, and she was serious about her exercises as she was a member of the Mall Walkers where she walked weekly at Iverson Mall. Audrey thoroughly enjoyed sewing and became so versed in it that she made all the Junior and Senior Prom dresses for her granddaughters. In her later years, Audrey lived at the Woodside Village Senior Apartments for 17 years where she had many friends, loved playing cards on Mondays, exercise on Wednesday mornings and attended numerous club meetings and activities with her friends. When she stated ailing, she moved closer to her daughter and family to the Brookdale Senior Living in Piksville, Maryland where she met new friends. The director and caregiver loved her. She later moved with her daughter for 4 1/2 years. She enjoyed seeing, spending time with and participating in numerous holidays and birthday celebrations with her granddaughters, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and regularly. It was always evident that she loved her family, especially her granddaughter, Erin and Allyn, the Apples of her eye. Audrey leaves behind a legacy of LOVE, CARING, HARDWORK and STRONG FAITH, John 1:1-8 - Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Audrey leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Eileen Magruder (Baltimore, MD); grandchildren, Sean Magruder, (Mona Magruder) preceded her in death), Erin Magruder and Allyn Magruder Hall (Timothy Hall); great-grands, Jamal Hill, Chanel Magruder, Nevin Hall, Ayana Jefferson, Sasha Magruder, Amiya Jefferson and Niles Hall; great-great-grands, Na"Kai Moody, Kamryn Hill, Sage Clark and Sean Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends
