Ashley Semour Harper

Ashley S. Harper was born October 18, 1956 to the late Nina Harper and Vernon Day of Baltimore, Maryland. However Ashley was adopted by his step-father, the late Carlton Harper Sr. during his mother's second marriage.Ashley attended public schools in Baltimore, attending Columbus Elementary School, School#298 and graduated City College High School. He later enrolled in the U.S. Navy and served his country with honors. Ashley loved animals and insects of all kinds when he was coming up. He had anything from frogs to garden snakes, turtles, birds, ducks, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, lightning bugs, praying mantis, spiders, pet chicks, grasshoppers, white mice and fish. You name it, he had it. We thought he would become an entamologist or a veterinarian. But instead he became a “great father” who loved his family, his children and the word of God. At an early age he attended St. Joseph F.W. Baptist Church and from that point on he had an interest in the bible. He knew the bible from cover to cover and enjoyed striking up a conversation about the scriptures. He was especially interested in prophecy, revelations and the end of times. He believed everyone should have their house in order because the end of times. He believed everyone should have their house in order because the end of times in near. Ashley made sure his family also engaged in the word of God. Ashley worked as a handy-man most of his life. He could build and fix just about anything. Early on he worked in the lawn and garden business. He worked on cars. He did a little plumbing. He worked in home improvement. He was a handyman around the house and did all of his own repairs. He made sure he kept food on the table for his family and provided for his children. He supported his children in whatever way needed. Ashley was a quiet man who worked hard and kept to himself.Ashley leaves to cherish his memory, his loving companion of 30 years, Dale Bumbrey, four children Shawn, Tiffany, Theresa and Darrell, one grand-daughter, China, his grand-mother Verna M. Clinton, one sister Vernice Claybourne & her husband Rodell Claybourne, two adopted sisters, Michelle Booker & Keyonte Harper, two brothers and their wives Ronald & Emily Harper and Carlton & Lawanda Harper, six aunts, one uncle and a host of other relatives and friends.
