Arthur Williams Jr.

Obituary For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. Romans 8:18 Arthur Williams, Jr. was born on May 21, 1945, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was the second oldest of 12 children of Dorothy M. Williams and Arthur Williams Sr. He is preceded in death by his father; his two sisters Eloise and Mary, and his brother Otto. Arthur attended P.S. 100, Rothchild JHS and he graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1963, he met the love of his life Eleanor and they happily married on July 25, 1965. He has four beloved children, Jewel Justine, Jason, and Tyneshia. A short time later he started his career at NY Commerce & Industry. After so many years there he became a school bus driver for Caravan Transportation from 1979 until he retired in 2000. As a child, he loved to sing, which added to his charm as an adult. He loved watching his Western Movies, especially Walker, Texas Ranger, Gun Smoke and we can’t forget, “In the Heat of the Night” he would watch that show over and over like he never seen it before. He also had a passion for cooking and baking. If you never had his sweet potato pie, then you really did not know him. He was famous for it. Whenever he came back to Brooklyn, he always had to make at least 12 pies because people would be lined up for a slice or two. He also used to plant his own watermelon in his yard. He would come with a trunk full. He also loved White Castle along with his Pepsi, a strawberry shortcake, and donuts. He loved his sweets. Arthur loved music, specifically Gospel. His favorite songs were “No Pain, No Gain” by Betty Wright” and “You Better Hold On To What You Got” by Joe Tex. He was also in a gospel group called The Heavenly Upsetters and was one of the lead singers. They played all around the city. His voice was captivating and strong! To know Arthur is to have laughed with or to have shared kind words. He was really funny. He always had something “Smart” to say! Arthur Williams leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Eleanor Williams; children, Jewel Franklin (Matthew), Justine Williams (Richard), Jason Williams (Teri), and Tyneshia Mears (Steven); mother, Dorothy M. Williams of Brooklyn, New York; sisters, Barbara, Angelee, Prenell, Betty and Denise; brothers, Charles, Tony, and Phillip; grandchildren, David, Cheri, Kasim, Hakim, Octavia, Monica, Jashauna, Alizabeth, Tyreece, Shayna, Malik, Justin, Kayla & Stephan; great-grandchildren, Kasim, Chase, Tahliya, Ethan, Kaiyah, Emery Paige, Kairo, Kai, and Kaleb. Arthur is deeply loved, and will be truly missed and will always be cherished. As he rest with God, may he forever live in our hearts.
