Arthur Eugene Pemberton, Sr.

Arthur Eugene Pemberton, Sr. was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 14, 1936 to the late Hubert and Ida Pemberton the 9th of 14 children. He was preceded in death by 8 siblings and two children, Gerald and Tony. He attended Boys High School in Brooklyn New York. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. On May 7, 1971, Arthur married Bessie Johnson. From this union there were 5 children born, Keith, Arthur, Gerald, Tony and Malaika. Being raised in a Christian home Arthur attended Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Church in Brooklyn, New York. He traveled abroad as the Road Manager of the Crystals. He later moved his family to St. Thomas Virgin Island where he worked for PrinAir Airlines. “AP” as he was affectionately known was a loving person that touched many lives in a special way. It is an understatement to say that AP was a loving person. What made his love so wonderful is the agape love, which is love that is of and from God. AP loved so much that he would go out of his way to help others, never hesitating to put the needs of others before his own. He never said “no” to anyone. AP was a Jack of all trades, he loved working with his hands, fixing whatever he thought needed fixing. He especially enjoyed working on cars, watching old westerns, The Price is Right and going fishing. His musical pleasure was listening to Al Greene, Otis Redding and BB King, playing the quitar, and he even taught his nephews to play. Most of all he adored his family time. Arthur Eugene Pemberton, Sr. departed this earthy life Friday, June 10, 2016 at 6:20 pm at Henrico Doctors Hospital. He leaves to mourn: 3 children, Keith, Arthur and Malaika; 6 grandchildren, Gerald, Kashmair, Jahmoi, Riquan “Nunu”, Victoria and Khalik; former wife, Bessie Pemberton; 3 sisters, Vivian Lewis, Dorothy Feaster and Shirley Challenger; 3 brothers, Alfonso Pemberton, James Pemberton and Kenny Challenger; 4 sisters-in-law, Dolena Pemberton, Stella Pemberton, Ida Pemberton and Gabby Pemberton, a god-daughter, Denise Jean-Pierre; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to numerous to mention. As we gather to bid our beloved AP farewell, we can think back over the years and thank God for blessing us with such a wonderful person. We will always remember the laughter, kindness, and joy we shared with him. It is our pray that God continue to bless our family as we carry on the work that is left for us to do. Rest, Arthur in the fullness of the Lord!
