Arthur Leon Guthrie

On Friday,February 17,2012,with open arms,our Lord and Savior received Arthur Guthrie. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Arthur Guthrie "Art" was born April 28,1944 in Boyle,Mississippi to Alice Smith and Hezekiah Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his four brothers,Samuel Walker,Bobby,Hezekiah and Earl Guthrie;two sisters,Clara Overton and Berta Guthrie. Art spent his young life in Mississippi and Miami,Florida. He spent 39 years of his adulthood in Chicago,Illinois raising his four children and working for Honeywell as an Inspector. After 33 years of dedicated service,he retired. Then he and Diane moved their two daughters to Miami where the family lived for five years. In 2002,Art accepted a job in Richmond,Virginia doing what he loved most---driving---for Greyhound Bus Lines and Groome Transportation. Art's zest for life was incredible and infectious. He was full of life and had such a radiant spirit that when he was in a room,you could feel his presence. He was outgoing,fun loving and a caring person. Art loved the outdoors,enjoyed watching a variety of sports,playing cards,cooking and telling stories. He filled his leisure time being with his family that he adored and he taught himself many of the things he wanted to learn. Throughout his life he was a mentor to his family and many friends. Mentoring allowed Art to share his wisdom and knowledge. It was no surprise to anyone who knew him when he befriended others and became a part of their lives. Our beloved Art will be missed by all who knew and loved him. But because of the wonderful love he shared,he will never be forgotten and will be remembered for his love and devotion to all of his family. We know that Art lives in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew and loved him. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives. Though we feel empty without him,we know he would want us to stay strong. Art leaves his loving memory to a caring wife,Diane Guthrie ;his loving children-Courtney,Lauren,Tony and Rodney Guthrie;one grandchild,Raneesha Willis;one great-grandchild,Jameria Willis;sister,Ruby Cole;brother,Larry Guthrie;mother-in-law,Judith Naponelli;a host of other relative,loving friends and neighbors.
