Arthur J. Epps

Arthur James Epps born April 4, 1929, the son of Alphonse Epps and Roxy Slater. He departed this life on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Arthur was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Baltimore City Schools. Later in life Arthur 's mother Roxy Slater married Victor Monterio, who was a merchant seaman from Portugal. As a youngster, Arthur was raised around merchant seaman from Portugal and this is what influenced him to want to become a merchant seaman. In 1966 he served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Arthur was a civilian seamen who had a career at sea and he maintained high standards of steamship. Arthur loved to travel and as a navy man he projected US sea power across the globe. Arthur would often have his children, family and friends laughing when he would tell different stories from when he was in the navy. Arthur worked for retired from the State of Maryland as an Environmental Specialist; he also worked part-time in the bowling alley, where his job was to reset the pins (that was before automatic pin setting machines) That was a dangerous job because you had to be quick to set the pins before the next ball was rolled. Arthur was faithful member of the Historic St. Francis Xavier Catholic church; he was a member of the Usher Board and he was one of the founders of the New Horizon of Men Organization. This organization gave Arthur the opportunity to develop good relationships and he was very likeable. This organization allowed him to do what he loved the most and that was to travel. He traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana; Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida and many more states in the United States. Arthur mostly liked to go on cruises to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska, Canada, New England, Hawaii and Bermuda with friends, but especially with his daughters. Arthur was a very friendly and loveable person to many,; he was liked and respected by his neighbors and he was always willing to give to others who were in need. He would spend time with friends watching sports events, he especially liked boxing and he was always challenging others to put up your dukes. Even during the times he was ill and in the hospital, the nurses and doctors would always become very fond of him and would give him very special care. He was a lover of seafood; he would often go crabbing with family and friends. Arthur was also a lover of clothes; he had an eye for fashion and enjoyed being sharply dressed at all times.
