Arthur Alfonso Brown,Sr.

Arthur Alfonso Brown,Sr.,AKA "Big Man," was born on July 3,1945 in Covington,Virginia. He departed his earthly home on August 29,2014 at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He took his flight home after a brief period of illness. He now rests in the arms of God. Arthur was educated in the public schools of Covington, Virginia. He was a daunting football player as he dearly loved the game. He was a force to be reckoned with on the field. Following graduation, Arthur joined the US Army and served in the Vietnam War for a 4 year period. Arthur and Cynthia relocated to the Richmond, Virginia area, where he attended John Tyler Community College and earned a degree in Mortuary Science. He was a skilled embalmer. Having sharp business acumen, Arthur owned and operated Trimline Lawn Care Service. He retired from FedEx of Richmond after 20 years of employment. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Marion T. Brown, Sr. and Mary Moore Brown; two brothers, Marion T. Brown, Jr. and Willard Brown; one sister, Minnie Brown. On July 4, 1975, Arthur wed the love of his life, the former Cynthia Nowlin. They shared the loving and devoted bonds of holy matrimony for 39 precious years. Together they raised their children in a Christian home. They worshipped, traveled and shared family vacations together. He simply loved people and having a good time. Arthur and Cynthia joined Quioccasin Baptist Church shortly after Dr. Andrew M. Mosley, Jr. became Pastor. The Browns were already acquainted with Pastor Mosley. Dr. Mosley had pastored First Baptist Church in Covington, Virginia, where Arthur’s mother and father were members. The late Marion T. Brown was a member of the Deacon Board, and the late Mary Moore Brown was a Deaconess. Mrs. Brown attended to the Mosley Children and prepared meals for Pastor and Mrs. Mosley At Quioccasin, Arthur was a dedicated member. He was president of the Choral Ensemble, co-chair of the Trustee Ministry, a member of the Men’s Fellowship and past president of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. Arthur served on both the Homecoming and Church Anniversary committees. He loved to sing and was a member of the Male Chorus. Arthur’s favorite song was “I Got A new Home Over I Glory.” He loved the Lord and always sought to actively support his church and his community. He made many financial contributions furthering the ministry of his church. Arthur loved Christmas time and lavishly decorated his home inside as well as outside. Arthur was known for hosting fabulous Christmas parties. He especially enjoyed dancing as he was quite light on his feet. He delighted in cooking, fishing, traveling and decorating. He was an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters,Tiaisha Brown and Nekeeia Brooks(Michael)’three sons, Arthur A. Brown,Jr.,Anthony Toliver, and Robert Brown; a sister,Armenthia Walker(Lloyd);a brother, James E. Brown(Brenda);and a host of other relatives and friends. Arthur will most certainly be missed. However, he has answered the clarion call and now he’s gone from labour to reward. May he rest in eternal peace.
