Antonio L. Smith

Our beloved, Antonio "Tony" Lamont Smith, 53, was born in Richmond, VA on February 12, 1971, to the late Aleatha B. and Julius Smith, Jr. He departed this life on Monday, June 17, 2024, after a period of illness. Antonio is preceded in death by his uncles; Carroll "Butchie" Parker Brown, Sr., Burley Brown, John Brewer, aunts Gloria Brewer, Jaqueline Brown, and Cousin, Carrol Parker Brown, Jr. Tony (Pappy),as he was affectionately called, graduated from Amelia Street for people with disabilities in 1993. He was employed with Hermitage Enterprises for twenty years prior to his health beginning to decline. Pappy, a nickname given at an early age by his late uncle Carroll, participated and excelled in the Special Olympics, achieving many awards. He participated in track and field, basketball and especially bowling, where he came in second place in the regionals. Pappy also loved to dance. Although he was a quiet guy, we was not shy. It only took a moment to hear his favorite tune and we was up dancing in the floor. He particularly loved old school R and B such as Jackson Five, Temptations and Earth Wind and Fire to name a few. Tony had an affectionally personality and to meet him was to love him. He placed love as a high priority for him. His pleasant spirit often led him to recognize if you were down, and he would offer a hug if you needed it. Pappy also knew the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior. He would not eat without saying his prayers first. Pappy also loved tasty food, often eating seconds as his mother was a great cook. He was once known to eat the entire eight pieces of chicken, his favorite food, and looked up at the family and grinned. Tony had a amazing strength overcoming the challenges of special needs, but to his family he was just Special and provided the glue in his family. Tony "Pappy" leaves to morn; Julius Smith (brother), Leroy Lewis (stepfather),Rosa Stinnett Smith (sister-in-law), Nakia Smith (niece),Kameron McKay (great niece),cousins Derrick (Dana) Brown and Lafon (Hannibal) Tuck, Francis "Bunny" Gaines-Tabb, Stephanie Wilkes and a host of other relatives and friends.
