Annie Bell Young

Annie Bell Beavers Young was known to many as “Mrs. Chick”. On the morning of December 31, 2019, she passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with family by her side. She was born January 13, 1935, to Johnnie Beavers of Goochland, VA and Georgie Slanton of Fluvanna, VA. Her parents married and this union created a beautiful family with ten children. Annie was the last to precede her parents and siblings in death. Annie family moved to Richmond, and she attended Richmond Public Schools. As a teenager at Maggie Walker High School, she met Rudolph Young who was a teenager at Armstrong High School. They later married and had 15 children. She attended and became a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church. Annie later went on to fulfil her goals as a Teachers Aide at Richmond Public Schools, and a certified Child Care Provider for the Commonwealth of VA Social Services. For many years, she operated an in-home daycare, she provided childcare services to many kids in the neighborhood. A lot of great bonds extended family and life-long friendships came out of her daycare services. Annie was everybody’s everything. She was the rock, the head, and the tail. Her love for her family and friends was beyond indescribable. She was a devoted and reliable mother to her kids.She was known as the neighborhood mother. Her caring ways and desire to always help anyone is why so many loved her like a mother. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She had lots of good times with her family and loved chatting with her friends. She possessed many talents, but she was known for cooking and dancing. She always prided herself on making sure the cooking was done right for the holidays and special family occasions. Sunday dinners were the times of laughs and reminiscing. Most holidays her family couldn’t wait for her homemade “ hot rolls”. This was a gift that no one could master as good as she. She always had something to eat for anyone who was in need. Let’s not forget our good times with her, especially her love for the “electric slide” at the family parties. Annie was preceded in death by her six sons: Vatelle, Rudolph Jr., Luscious, Keith, Anthony, and Darrell Young; daughter, Dorothy Young Thomas; granddaughter, Katarva Young; and great-grandson, Rawleak Pryor. Annie is survived by her husband, Rudolph Young; two sons, Westley and Val, and six daughters, Shelia, Regina, Valerie, Gwendora, and Tomeeka Young, and Rhonda Young-Barfield (Michael); two nephews; Larry and Linwood Beavers; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; and twenty-four great-great grandchildren.A host of other relatives and friends to include Lillian, and Varnetta, among them one devoted friend, Teresa Hopson. There are also many who she loved like her own children. This was a bond that is no different than if they had been blood related. Dana Harris, Ricardo Folge, Lester Giles, and Teresa Jennings held a special place in Annie’s heart.
