Annie B. Kearney

Annie Belle Lane Kearney, widow of James H. Kearney was called home to the Lord on December 8, 2005 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.Born November 2, 1921 to the late Arterway and Lillie Lane in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, she was the third child of nine. She attended the County Public Schools in Edgecombe. When her Mother became ill and passed on, Annie Belle postponed furthering her education to care for her siblings. She was quiet, loving and a powerful care giving person. She was highly respected and loved by all.In 1940, Annie Belle married her childhood sweetheart, James, and they relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. There, they purchased a home and began a family. To their union, the additions of two blessed sons were born-George Herman and James Earl both preceded her in death. As her children grew, Annie Belle decided to enter the corporate world, joining the workforce at Maryland Glass Company. With a strong interest in cosmetology, she would later enroll and graduated from the Apex Beauty and Barber School in 1963. She continued to work at Apex until her retirement.Ma-Ma, as her grandchildren affectionately called her, possessed many talents and interests, but none greater than spending time with her family. She derived great pleasure from merely being in her kitchen and preparing meals that would make you hungry as soon as you hit her door. There wasn’t a dish she couldn’t prepare. She was an accomplished bowler, and would often bowl at the Lafayette Bowling Center in Baltimore. Ma-Ma acquired plenty of bowling trophies in her day.In recent years, as her health began to decline, Annie Belle relocated to Hampton, VA., to be nearer to her sisters. She was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was full of and gave and unlimited and unconditional amount of love, courage, and strength. Her capacity to give never stopped until the day the Lord called her home.She leaves to cherish her lasting memory: three sisters, Lillian, Alfreda and Francis; one brother, Bernard; two brothers-in-law, Lewis and Benjamin; five sisters-in-law, Beulah, Florence, Arillia, Vera, and Viola; one daughter-in-law, Catherine Kearney; and several grandchildren, Dawn, James Earl (Boo), Gary, Tammy, Ghanna, Paris, Nicole, Tiffany and Stephanie; a total of eleven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends she touched in her life.
