Anne Allen Winston

OBITUARY Anne Delores Allen Winston was born January 31, 1939 in Richmond, Virginia to her parents Rebecca Harrison and James Allen. She departed this life on Thursday October 27, 2011 at home surrounded by her beloved family. Anne was educated in Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Maggie L. Walker in 1955. Years later, she decided to return to school to further her education. She attended and graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College with an Associate Degree in Business Management. Shortly after, she was promoted to a supervisor position with the U.S. Postal Service. After 25 years, she retired in 1992. She was never one who could rest on her laurels, therefore; she re-entered the workforce as a customer service representative with Bank of America for two years. Three years later, her then four-year old granddaughter Adrianna, convinced her to work at her school (Holy Angels) as a temporary part-time cook. This job became one of the most fulfilling and rewarding positions she ever had. She soon became “Grandma” to dozens of preschoolers as she lovingly prepared their meals. She touched their lives with her warm and caring spirit. She knew that real joy had little to do with what was in her hands rather what was in her heart. At an early age, Anne became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. As a youngster, she sang in the Youth Choir and as an adult, she sang in the Randolph Memorial Choir. She also served as a Girls Scout Leader, an usher, and a member of the Tree of Life Committee until she could no longer fulfill her duties. Anne loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She praised him during the good times and the bad times. It was her faith and trust in God that sustained her throughout her life. She never let go of his unchanging hand. Though her travels have taken her many places afar, she always knew that nothing could compare to the pleasure and comfort of home. She truly believed that a family’s love was one of God’s greatest gifts. She leaves to cherish her memories, seven children , Joel A. Dawkins, Nealie Allen, Randy Allen, Dianne Dawkins, Sharon Stone, Adrian Dawkins, Ivan Dawkins; one beloved son-in-law, Willie Stone; ten grandchildren, Joel Dawkins, Winter Anderson, Sherita Jennings, Terrell Pollard, Adrian Allen, Dominique Stone, Daion Stone, Tabriz Allen, Adriana Sullivan and Melissa Ingram; five great grandchildren, Jayla Waddy, Kaleb Johnson, Jamya Dawkins, Meykel Allen and Kayden Parker and a host of cousins and other relatives; one devoted friend, Shirley Eddleston.
