Anna Louise Simons

God called, Louise responded, took his hand and departed from us on August 17, 2007 at 12:01 noon at her residence. Anna Louise Simons, “Louise” as she was called was born on January 25, 1921 in Towson, Maryland, where she received her schooling. Louise was the eldest of seven children born to the late Mary Sallie Scovens and Sylvester Scovens, Sr.In her life, Louise went to beauty school and later met the late Willie Robert Cherry. Together they were blessed with six children. Louise worked for Baltimore City Public Schools for over thirty years where she retired. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and singing hymns. Most of Louise’s life was spent caring for others. She never complained or fussed and always got the job done. Three siblings predeceased her, the late Sarah Jackson, Pete Scovens and Abraham Scovens.She leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Ethel (Donald) Johnson, Mary (Emanuel) Butler, Willie Mae Terry, Robert Cherry and Christine (Larry) Cherry-Valines; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; Geneva Vaughn, Thomas Scovens and Laura Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Grandma you were like a mother to many. No matter what happened you would just say, “It will be ok,” and you were right it was always ok. Among other things you devoted your life to being a Mother, a Grandmother, a Great-Grandmother, and a Great-Great-Grandmother to many, many children. You can say you were the glue that held the family together, kept the peace between many of us on several occasions. I don’t know what we would have done without you. You were smart, kindhearted, and polite to everyone you knew and will never be forgotten. We love you so much and are glad that you have moved onto a better place. No more pain, God has come to claim his daughter and taker her home.Loving GrandchildrenGrandma, It seems like it was just yesterday you and me were in your room laughing and giggling. You always put a smile on my face and I love to hear your sweet voice. “Fatty Girl,” you always called me. Grandma, I will never ever forget you. I always said you were my favorite – why did you have to leave so fast in that little bit of time. Without me saying good-bye, grandma without you my life is nothing. I know you’re in a better place now, I’ll be with you someday but until then you will always be in my heart.Your Loving Great-Grandchildren
