Ann Marie Woods

Ann “Annie” Marie Douglas was born on May 22, 1928, to George Parker Douglas, (Sr.) and Mae “Mary” Anastasia Douglas (nee Spears) in Baltimore, Maryland. She spent her entire life living in Baltimore, where she attended St. Catherine’s Elementary School before attending St. Frances Academy, graduating in 1946. For many years, she was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and later joined the parish of St. Peter Claver where she remained a faithful member until her passing. She was married to the late Vernon Pennington, O.D., from 1951 to 1953. In 1960, she married Langston Woods, Jr., who passed away in 1998. Ann was an employee of the Social Security Administration for 34 years before retiring in 1983. After retirement, she kept busy caring for grandsons Eddie and Steven, and later granddaughter, Allison. She also worked part time as a clerk for a merchant at the Gallery at Harbor Place. Anywhere she went, Ann would run into someone she knew. She was known as “Mom”, “Aunt Ann”, “Annie”, “Ms. Woods”, and “Granny Ann”, depending on how she touched our lives. She enjoyed sports, especially football, golf, and horse racing. She loved crosswords and puzzle games, watching Jeopardy! and listening to the opera and live radio broadcasts on public radio every Saturday. Ann was the “go-to” person for fundraising raffle tickets and card parties sponsored by the National Oblate Sisters of Providence Alumni Association (NOSPAA), of which she was a proud member along with her classmates of St. Frances Academy. Ann’s family includes her sister, Rosalie Douglas, brother, George P. Douglas, Jr., and sister-in-law, Marie Douglas, sister-in-law, Vashti M. Bristol, son, Leonard J. “Nicky” Pennington, daughters Celia Linda Pennington, Julie Ann Shoats, and Mary Carol Hamer. Her daughter, Michelle Cynthia Murray, sisters Alease and Mary, and her brothers John “Snooky”, Joseph “Joe” and Anthony Leo “Lee” preceded her in death. “Aunt Ann” was also “Mom” to her late sister Mary’s children and spouses: Cynthia Ann Roberson, Timothy and Cassandra Roberson, the late Michael Roberson and his wife Gail, Patricia and Tony Anderson, Patrick and Angela Roberson, Mary Eileen Roberson, and Rosanne and Jacques Plater, as well as her late brother Joe’s children: Phyllis, Lillian and the late Marc Douglas and his wife, Gail. She became a surrogate grandmother to all of their children. Ann is also survived by nephews Ival (Dougie) Carey, Robert Young, niece Kai Douglas, grandchildren George Edward “Eddie” Augins, IV, Steven Jermaine Augins, and Allison Michelle Hamer, as well as great-grandchildren Destiny Roberson and Seinko Gered Augins, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves countless relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
