Ann Delores Alston

A Time to be born... On September 13, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland the late Helen (Webster) and Herbert Alston, Sr. were Blessed with the birth of their first of seven children, a wonderful daughter , Ann Delores, affectionately called “Lars” by family friends, she was the only girl for ten years and was a joy to her parents and her family. A Time to Plant Ann accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while a child at the First Baptist Church and was baptized by then pastor, the late Rev Vernion T. Williams. Ann was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 63 years and served in many capacities including: Women's Day Chairperson, long-time President of the Clara Barton Nurses Unit, member of the First Baptist Relief and most recently Chair of Communications Ministry. She reared her child in the church and made sure she was not in Sunday School, on the choir and involved in children and youth activities. Ann loved God and she loved her church. In spite of her ailments, she would often talk about wanting to get back to church. She brightened many days with a phone call, or by sending a birthday or get-well Card. She checked on the sick & shut-in and provided an encouraging word. She would always end her conversations with “have a blessed day”. Every first Sunday, she looked forward to praising the Lord with the visiting deacons who came to her home to serve Holy Communion. She was not ashamed to profess the Lord and tell others of his goodness and mercy. A Time to Reap... Ann attended Baltimore City Public Schools never missing a day of school and was proud class of June 1954 graduate of the Paul Laurence Dunbar high School. Ann enjoyed attending her class reunions and class of '54 luncheons. She developed life long friendship with many of her classmates. Son after being graduated from high school, Ann began working at Sinai Hospital. In 1951, she entered the Nursing Program at Sinai Hospital and remained there until 1963. in January 1964, she began working at Franklin Square Hospital in the OB/GYN Department. Ann Happily retired from Franklin Square in September 1994, but kept in touch with many of co-workers trough the years. A Time to Love one of Ann's greatest joys in life occurred on November 20, 1963 when she gave birth to a girl, Donna Ann. She enjoyed being a mother and was involved in her daughter's life from the PTA to being a sorority mom. She took her daughter everywhere with her and often traveled together. Ann Shared the truest meaning of love through her daughter. In April of 1997 and September of 1998, Ann was blessed to become a grandmother of a baby girl Alexis Deonna and a handsome baby boy, Adonis DeMarco, respectively. Ann couldn't wait to be a grandmother and loved them both. She was so happy to share their accomplishments with everyone. Adoris was “her boy” and Alexis was her “love muffin.” A Time to mourn... Ann peacefully departed this life for eternal rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at home after suffering complications due to a stroke that occurred on January 7, 2012 with her daughter by her side. She will be remembered by everyone for her gentleness, her unyielding faith, her hearty laugh, generous conversations and genuine concern for others. Ann will be greatly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing and loving her. A Time to Weep Ann was a wonderful daughter, loving sister, great mother, caring grandmother, loyal friend and most importantly a faithful Child of God. She leaves a lifetime of memories to cherish by her daughter, Donna Williams; two grandchildren- Alexis and Adonis McCoy; three brothers (her oldest brother Herbert Alston preceded her in death) – Lewis Alston (Nancy), Percy Alston (Clara), Roosevelt Alston; two sisters – Maxine Hudley, Bernice Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends; and her two :good boys” - dogs Shiloh & Jonathan
