Andrew Houston

ANDREW THOMAS HOUSTON, fondly known to family as Brother and to his college friends as Shakey, was the youngest of two children, born on April 33, 1948 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to the late Andrew and Viola Houston. Andrew was raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he attended Lincoln High School and played high school football, graduating in 1966. He aspired to continue his education which lead him to Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting in 1970. While attending Saint Augustine's College, he pledged and became a very active member of the Gamma Omicron Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Andrew was also an active member of St. Augustine's C.I.A.A. Winning Men's Track Team where the 440 Relay Team shattered the school sectional and conference records in 1969. He was also a part of the “New Jersey Speedsters,” a name given to three Jersey City students who were phenomenal track men. While attending St. Augustine's, Andrew met and later married his college sweetheart Phyllis, and from this union two children, Shaun and Kimberly were born. After college, Andrew worked as an Auditor for the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. He would later moved back to the city he knew best, Jersey City, to help his late Aunt Mattie Mae Reynolds with her restaurant work as an Investigator for the Jersey City government, where he met his current wife, Lynn Patterson Houston. In the year following his job as an investigator, Andrew worked for the Sunoco Corporation until his departments from the New Jersey area. Andrew is survived by his wife, Lynn Houston; his children, Shaun and Kimberly (William); five grandchildren, Shauna, Gray, Nicholas, Billi and Chase; one aunt, Hattie Mae Huntley; a devoted cousin, Jim and many other relatives and friends. Andrew will be remembered as a loving individual, with a warm smile and soft words. His love for his family will always be remembered. God in His infinite wisdom saw Andrew had fought an arduous fight so He invited him to spend eternal life with Him as the final chapter in his earthly life had been completed.
