Amelia R. Walker-Bey

AMELIA REGINA WALKER-BEY was born June 19, 1939 to the late William Brown and late Anamelia Ogle. At the age of 79, she died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Regina, her preferred name, received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. Regina was employed with St. Agnes Hospital from 1970 until her retirement in 1997. During those twenty-seven years, she worked in Food Services and Material Processing Departments. Regina was a hard worker. She lived and believed “never half step in any endeavor but to always do it right”. A trait she instilled in her son, Joe, whom she loved deeply and ensured he wanted for nothing. After retirement, Regina was able to pursue her true passion as a Foster Grandparent. In May 2000, she received her Foster Home License from the Catholic Charities Center for Family Services. For fifteen years she used that passion as a Teacher’s Assistant at Middle River Elementary School, Thomas G. Hayes Elementary School, and Johnson Square Elementary School. Throughout those years, she served as an Outstanding Foster Grandparent. So much so, The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services awarded her countless certificates of recognition, appreciation, and gratitude for her valuable time, enthusiasm, and dedication to the youth, families, and staff. Yes, many fond and lasting relationships were formed. Regina volunteered for The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Summer Day Camp who truly appreciated her valuable time and contributions. In 2007, Regina received from The State of Maryland the Governor’s Volunteer Service Certificate in appreciation of her efforts to ensure the vitality of the community in which she volunteered. Regina was long known for her positive outlook on life and her sense of humor. She was an avid baker and enjoyed baking cakes and pies for her loved ones and friends. She catered and sponsored numerous crab feasts. She was a hair stylist and was known for being skilled with a hair curling iron. Regina is survived by: her son, George Hartford Jones; cousins, Thelma Juanita Patterson, Wanda Jackson, Lawrence Ogle, and Barbara-Jean Ogle, Octavia Ford and Thomas Brown; nephews, Thomas L. McMillan, Hartford Brown; nieces, Priscilla Henry, Jennie Burnside, Deborah Brown, Cassandra Murray, Tonja Allen, Regina Brown and Delphine Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
