Amelia Jane Johnson

Mrs. Amelia “The Boss Lady” Gordon Johnson entered the heavenly gates of pearls and gold and was presented with her golden crown of eternity and peace on March 19, 2025 at the age of 104. Born as the eldest of eight siblings to the late Fred Sr. and Necolia Gordon on February 17, 1921, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Baptized at an early age, she carried on her faith through her children, and they worshiped at Pilgrim Baptist. Amelia moved to Richmond VA, from North Carolina as a young adult. Married to the late John E. Johnson, Sr., blessed with a bonus daughter and born three children, and was a homemaker. Worked as a supervisor at Royal Laundry and T&E Laundry, where she met some of her life long friends and worked part-time for The Commonwealth of Virginia before retiring. With her caring and loving heart, she did anything for anyone. She prayed and called on God every day and any time. She enjoyed car and train rides to her hometown, visited Williamsburg, Virginia, and traveled to Buckroe Beach. She challenged her mind by solving crossword puzzles, but relaxed her mind while watching her stories, reading the newspaper, and studying bible verses. She would hum, sing, and praise to herself. Spoke her mind and did all she had to do and needed to do without any approval required because she was The Boss Lady. Family was her life. She leaves her wisdom, faith, love, strength, precious memories, and extraordinary legacy to carry on. Amelia was preceded in death by her siblings Iona Ashley, Katie Neely, Dorothy, William, Fred Jr., and LeRoy Gordon, and Ruth Womic; son Norman E. Johnson ‘Big Norm/Big Daddy; great grandson, Jocinto Buffaloe, Jr.; granddaughter, Mahogany Battle; Nephews Calvin, Tyrone, and Kenneth Womic and Ernest Hutchinson Johnson; niece and nephew-in-law Helen and Michael Haynes; bonus daughter Joan Miles and bonus grandson Carl ‘Mickie’ Bullock. MaMa, Grandma J., Aunt Amelia leaves to cherish her love and memories, daughter and devoted caregiver, Necolia Johnson, devoted son John E. Johnson, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson, devoted caregiver and granddaughter, Erica Johnson; loving sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth H. Johnson and family; grandchildren, Jocinto (Heather), Tiffany, and Norman Buffaloe, Maya Johnson, Normannick Battle, Montreal McClain, Jabril Daniel, Marcus Newton (Brittani), Clyde E. Bullock, Cathy Hargrove (Donell, Sr.), Calvin Bullock (Linda); Michelle, Marsha, and Herb Ford; great grandchildren, Javian, Jamya, Jamani, Noreyana, Nyrell, Tyrell, Jerell, Jourdyn, Journee, Timaria, Jacques, Amhya, Mekhia, Genesis, Brooklyn, London, Kassidy, Normani, Kalani, Azaria, Amir, Martasia, Maurice, III., Brian, Brandon, Jayden, Carlette Butler (Duane), Donell Hargrove, Jr., Domonique Hargrove, Calvin Dunn (Ashley), and Mica Burrell; great great grandchildren, Ay’Lani, Kanaya, Calvin, Jr., Curtis, Carter, Cooper, Ja’Mie, Joanah, and Milani, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
