Alvin Lewis Dobson

Alvin Lewis Dobson, 45, of New Kent Virginia, affectionately called “Al” transition from this life on January 17, 2025. He joined his family in heaven who preceded him in death, father Junious Alvin Dobson; brother, Junious Alvin Dobson Jr.; brothers-in-love, Deacon Tyrone Johnson and Deacon Melvin Crawford, Jr. On September 16, 1979, Alvin was born from the union of Junious and Jacqueline R. Dobson. In September of 1994, he accepted Christ and joined New Elam Baptist Church. Alvin attended the New Kent County Public School System. He is a graduate of New Kent High School, Class of 1997. He was a member of the NK Basketball team and played community recreational basketball for many years. Upon graduation, he attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College until accepting full-time employment at the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a Truck Driver for VDOT for many years until he was promoted to supervisor. His most recent work assignment was overseeing the Virginia Capital Bike Trail in Charles City, Virginia. He faithfully served VDOT for 20 years. Alvin touched the lives of so many he encountered. His love extended beyond the borders of his home; he had a passion for inspiring our youth. He took his son and nephews under his wings teaching them Biblical principles and life lessons. Alvin enjoyed music, playing video games, making beats, art, drawing, playing basketball and collecting basketball shoes. He was a very stylish and “Snazzy” dresser. Alvin’s favorite sports teams were the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also enjoyed playing Spades on family game night. Alvin and his nephew Travis Black remain the reigning Spades Champions. Alvin loved his son Sadiq and often shared the Word of God with him and all who came in his presence. Above all things, he loved the Lord and cherished his family. Alvin’s health began to fail in 2019. However, he did not let that stop him from living a quality life in the Lord. His legacy continues through those he left to cherish his memory: son, Sadiq Elijah Johnson Dobson; devoted mother, Jacqueline Robinson Dobson; three sisters, Deaconess Joyce Dobson Crawford, Minister Selda Dobson Johnson, and Teresa Dobson Brown (Floyd); a host of nieces and nephews, Carroll D. Randall Jr., Shannon Randall Arnett, Tiffany Randall Wilson (Lamar), Travis Lewis Black, Da’Vonda Black, Brittany Randall Alvarado (Xavier), and Noah Brown; nine great-nieces and nephews, Josiah Randall, Ja’Mari Arnett, Jade Patrick, Serinity Davis, Jayden Sparks, Kaylynn Randall, Jasmine Garcia, Emmanuel Black, and Eli’Shah Alvarado; three aunts, Ida J. Brown of New Kent, Virginia and Shirley Paige and Fannie Dobson of Charles City Virginia; devoted friends, Robert D. Jefferson, Norman Puryear, and Maurice Jones; God-children, Emmanuel Black, Mason and Maddux Jones; a host of loving cousins’ extended relatives, and friends.
