Alvin Darnell Wooden

ALVIN DARNELL WOODEN affectionately known as "Al, Wooden, Woody, or Woodrow" was the son of the late Ellen Elizabeth and the late William Henry Wooden. He was born August 24, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a brief illness, he departed this earthly life and God granted him his two wings on March 31, 2008.He received his early education from Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Baltimore City College in 1977 as Valedictorian. He attended and graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland in historic St. Mary's City in 1981.Throughout his formal years of education, he received numerous awards in academics and athletics such as, The Peabody Institute Award, National Honor Society of Secondary Schools, Outstanding Performance Award in Spanish, Merit Scholastic Award for the State of Maryland, C. Markland Kelly Jr. Athletics Service Award, Maryland Scholastic Association Awards for Individual Track and Field Championships, and other numerous Basketball and Track and Field Awards. On January 18, 2006 he was inducted as a Member/First President in the Men's Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Charter Post #8509 (Tyson-Walker)On December 16, 1981 he was employed by the State of Maryland in the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He started his employment as a Correctional Officer and soon after became a Correctional Case Management Specialist. His 27 years of service were served at the Maryland State Penitentiary presently known as The Maryland Transition Center (MTC). Alvin was known as a dedicated and well-respected employee by his co-workers and inmates. He will greatly be missed by all.On March 30, 1985, he married his high school sweetheart Theresa Renee Wright. From this union, God blessed them with two sons Donte' Alvin Wooden and Damon Darnell Wooden which were the highlight of their lives.Throughout Alvin's life he enjoyed life to the fullest and took advantage of the many opportunities to share his love and friendship with family and friends. Food was the gateway to his earthly turned into a life long friendship. One of the highlights of his life was the birth of his grandchildren. Others were being a jokester an his affectionate smile that surely lit up a room.Alvin Darnell Wooden leaves to honor his legacy: his wife of 23years, Theresa R. Wooden; two sons, Dont'e Alvin and Damon Darnell Wooden; two grandchildren, Keirston Monet and Damon Darnell Wooden Jr.; four sister, Bernice Hopson, Linda Pack, Sandra Lynch, and Beverly Wooden; two brothers Larry and Jerry Tyrone Wooden; father-in-law, Samie Wright; mother-in-law, Edith Wright; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law five uncles and aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
