THE MAN ... ALVIN LEE CLARK was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 30, 1947, to the late Beatrice Davis and KG Clark. He was an only child because he was more than a handful to his parents, says his Mom. Ms. Beatrice met and married the late Leroy Davis (no relation), when Alvin was the tender age of 4 years old. They both raised Alvin together and Al talked about their fishing trips and driving back and forth between the Carolinas and Baltimore to visit with family members while he was growing up. He received his education in the Baltimore City school system and then relocated to Job Corps, Woodstock, Maryland campus, to further his education and to obtain his high school diploma and a trade. He decided to study Home Economics because all the pretty girls were in that class. THE MYTH ... When Alvin returned home from school, he worked in the food industry for a couple of years and then worked in waste management. Then he found his calling for a long time driving taxi cabs. In 1971, he met a young lady by the name of Mary Foster and her daughter Bernice. From that union he was blessed with one son, Alexander Mario-Lee Clark in 1973, who preceded him in death. In later years, Al worked as an armed security guard with Constellation Energy and also a ride share driver until his illness. Alvin always believed in God and was saved in his early 30s. However, he didn’t join Mount Zion Baptist Church under the teachings of Rev. Mark Riddix, Ill until his late 50s. Later, Mount Carmel Baptist Church became home, led by Bishop Leroy Gilliard, Jr. THE LEGEND ... Alvin was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He even started a card and game night at his senior building where he resided. Before that, he taught a health class there also. He even made friends with the staff and clients at the Autumn Lakes Rehab Center where he resided for three months. Alvin loved singing and acting in community plays and fell in love with the karaoke scene, showing off his beautiful baritone voice in various bars, clubs, shows, and plays in Maryland and D.C. areas. To the performance world he was known as “Big Al”. His favorite song to perform was “She got Skillz”. After a year long illness, Big Al gained his heavenly wings on May 8, 2025 after a “good fight” with cancer. Big Al leaves to mourn, Synthia Hawkins, daughter-in-law (Quincy); grandchildren, Atia Hawkins (Shawn) Alex Clark, Jr., Jade Clark, Dennis Price (Jakearra), Khamari Hawkins, Meelana Hawkins (Vonte); five great-grandchildren, Amira Hawkins, Damir Price and three other grands of the Clark Clan; first cousin, Clarence Clark; second cousin, Denise Little; close friends, Vernon Jones, James Broady, and BJ; a whole slew of other karaoke and acting friends and family whose names are unknown. Love to all his neighbors at Marlborough Apartments. Alvin’s Prayer Dear God, I thank You that I am free from all fear and iniquity. Thank You Lord that You have delivered me from the consequences of sin, and have brought me into a life of freedom. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Thank You Lord that my identity is in You. I thank You Father, that I have been identified as Your child and because of this, I can call You Father.
