Alva E. Dutton

“His Lord said unto him, well done, thy good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” (Matthew 25:21) Alva E. Dutton, the daughter of the late Dewey and Florence Taylor was born on February 6, 1930 in Accomac County, Virginia. On June 16, 2013 in the afternoon, Alva was called to eternal rest by her Lord and Savior, with her family by her side. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, in Virginia. Upon her arrival to Baltimore, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. She later joined the Mt. Zion Hill Baptist Church and was a faithful member and servant of the Mass Choir until her illness. Alva had the voice of a humming bird, and she loved to sing for the Lord. She received her education in Accomac County and Baltimore City Public School Systems and later attended Cortez Peters College. Alva was employed at Sears & Roebuck Co. for many years and later assisted with the family business, (Dutton Movers). On December 3, 1949 Alva married the love of her life, the late Samuel L. Dutton and out of that union they were blessed with seven children. Alva had a loving spirit, always devoting her time to family and friends. She enjoyed cooking her special dishes for family gatherings and holidays. Every summer she visited her home town in Virginia, but most of all she enjoyed her vacations with her husband Samuel. She will be remembered as a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a loving friend and neighbor for the love and kindness she extended to others. Alva leaves to cherish loving memories to: her children, Leo C. Dutton, Donald Dutton, Darlene Wiggins, Cynthia Shearrill, Crystal Anderson, Jacqueline Dutton, Theresa Dutton (which preceded in death); two sisters, Patricia Sample and Deborah Godwin; four brothers, Lester Taylor, Earl Taylor, Larry Taylor and Leonard Taylor; one sister-in-law, Carrie Bowers; three sons-in-law, Phillip Shearrill Mark Anderson and Von Wiggins; one daughter-in-law, Vendetta Dutton; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors.
