Altia E. Lee

A TIME TO BE BORN –ALTIA EUGENIA LEE was born on February 4, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the fifth of six children to Louis and Voyd Nixon. She was educated in the Baltimore Public School System; graduated from Cortez Peters Business School; moved after retirement from Baltimore to Columbia, Maryland; and relocated to California, where she resided with her daughter for fourteen years.A TIME TO LOVE –Altia united in marriage to Edward W. Lee, Sr. and three children were born to this union: Evon, Edward, Jr. and Michael. She was a proud mother, frequently and publicly proclaiming her love for her children.A TIME TO LABOR –Altia’s father was an ordained Methodist minister and her mother was a church mother. The family attended Christ United Methodist Church in East Baltimore. Altia’s labor for the Lord began when she accepted Jesus in her life at an early age and she remained a faithful, tithing, member of Christ United Methodist Church until the very end. Within the past year, she began attending services at Glad Tidings Church of God In Christ, with her daughter in Hayward, California. She recently decided to become a member of Glad Tidings. Altia read her Bible daily.Altia retired as a Keypunch Operator for the National Security Agency after 35 years of service. She concurrently worked for the Afro-American Newspaper as a Teletype Operator for 25 years.An avid crossword puzzle buff, Altia said it was a way to keep her mind sharp. She began traveling late in life and was delighted and blessed to see the Grand Canyon first hand at the age of 75.A TIME TO DIE –Altia Eugenia Lee, 85, quietly departed this life as she slept on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, in Castro Valley, California.A TIME TO MOURN –She leave to cherish her memory: a daughter, Evon Thompson of Hayward California; a son, Michael Lee, of Seattle, Washington. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters, Jeanettte Douglas and Geraldine (Billy) Brooks of Baltimore, Maryland; four grandchildren, William Vaughn Lee, Michael B. Lee, Tiffany Lee, and Jason Lee of Baltimore, Maryland, many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Edward W. Lee, Jr., and grandson, Christopher M. Beams.Altia’s smile and feistiness will be surely missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her.
