Allustus Shellington

ALLUSTUS SHELLINGTON was the only daughter and second of four children, born t the late Marvin and Reecie Duffy on April 19, 1925 in Accomack County, Virginia. She peacefully slept, as she claimed her seat in glory on Monday morning, September 13, 2010. Allustus and her family moved to Baltimore when she was a young girl. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. In January of 1941, she married the late James Israel Shellinton. Eight children were born from this union. She spent several years as a home maker and was later employed at Keswick Nusing Home where she retired after 30+ years. Allustus was a long- time member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. She later became a member of Mt. Sinai Temple Church. Listening to Christian music and watching gospel programs was an enjoyable and favorite past time. Allustus loved people and her greatest joy was when her family and friends gathered together to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and other milestones such as births, graduations and weddings. She loved to give parties and used just about anything as a reason to have one. She loved to shop and will be remembered for the joy she found in decorating her home for all holidays and everything had to match. Allustus particularly loved the color red, white and blue and didn’t limit their use to the 4th of July and other patriotic holidays. Her closet was full of red, white and blue! She touched many lives throughout her life and will be deeply missed. Allustus was predeceased by: her brother, Lawrence, Robert and Floyd Duffy; Oneida Page, who was raised as her sister; two daughters, Louise Talley and Nancy Shellington; and two sons, James Edward and Larry Shellington. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: daughter, Sylvia Shellington, Juanita Hall, Vashti Shellington and Peggy Savoy; goddaughter, Brandelear Johnson; sister-in-law, Betty Duffy of Lakewood, New Jersey; and daughter-in-law, Diane Shellington; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Also cherishing her memory and the good times are two life-long friends since the age of fourteen, Dorothy (Olivia) Dailey and Margaret Nicholson.
