Allie Ragin Jr.

Allie Ragin, Jr. was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 15, 1941, the youngest of four children to the late Sam and Elsie Ragin. He departed this life on February 14, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Sammie L. and John E. Ragin and great nephew Michael A. Cole, Jr. Allie, received his education in Richmond Public School. He was a graduate of Armstrong High School. After high school he attended Kittrell College on a basketball scholarship. He then went to Delaware State and later transferred to Livingston College where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Allie began his teaching career at Caroline County High School. He later taught in Richmond at Thompson, Westhampton and Martin Luther King, Jr. middle schools. After his retirement, he taught homebound students and worked in the IT Department for Richmond Public Schools. He also worked for many years with Richmond's Parks and Recreation where he coached little league football and basketball. He established Metropolitan Bingo to fund the Metropolitan Junior League where he also served as a coach. Allie was a member of Hood Temple AME Zion Church, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Die Teufel Club, the YMCA and the Celebration Choir. He managed MBL's Bingo and held the annual Allie Ragin Tennis Tournament. He was one of Livingston College's largest contributors. He was past president of Livingston's Richmond Alumni Chapter and scholarship program. He was a member of Livingston's Presidents Club and served as the Grand Marshall for the 1997 Homecoming Parade. In 2007, Allie was inducted into Livingston's Athletic Hall of Fame, earned the status of a legend. Allie loved sports and was a diehard Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed attending Virginia Union University's sporting events. Allie was a family man who enjoyed organizing many family reunions. He loved to travel. He was loved by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by two sons, Darryl A. Eanes and Allen R. Turner; devoted sister, Sarah E. Cole; grandchildren, Darryl and Stuart Eanes, Allen Eanes (Brittany) and Jasmine Johnson (Roderick); great grandchildren, Allen, Jr., Xavier, Jaremias, Isaiah, Zaliyah and Zariyah; uncle, Wilson Oliver of St. Matthews, SC; nieces, Debra Cole-Anderson (Silas) and (Devoted) Cynthia White (Robert); nephews, James Cole, Jr., Michael Cole, Sr., Tracy Jeffries, Omari and Kiarri Turner; great nieces, Kiara, Kristen, Taila and Tamariyah; great nephews, Jamaal, Narradda, Juane, Kemmone, Malik and Omari, Jr.; great- great nieces, Micaelah and Mikenzie; god sister, Vera M. Jones; godsons, Damian Royal and Dereck Eanes; devoted companion of more than 20 years, Alfreda Spraggins; devoted cousins, Lillie White, Larry and Robert Ragin; devoted friends, WilliamJoyner, Lahoma Morgan, Gloria Coleman, Edward Harris, Frank Thornton, Welford Lewis, Bobby Highsmith, James Haynesworth and Milton Cunningham; a host of other relatives and special friends.
