Allen Walton Kelly

ALLEN WALTON KELLY, son of the late Herbert and Ollie Lou Kelly, was born on June 18, 1921 in Tifton, Ga. He departed this life after a short illness on April 20, 2006. He was educated in the public school system of Georgia and later moved to Florida. After a short stay in Florida, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he met and married Gertrude Macer. They were joined in holy matrimony on April 26, 1945 and from this union, 6 children were born, Carolyn (deceased), Allen Jr.. (deceased), Michael (deceased), Shirley, Janet and Karen. Allen served as a member of the Armed Forces in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1947. After his military service was completed, he was employed by the Proctor and Gamble Company from which he retired in 1987 after 40 years of service. Allen Kelly became a member of St. John A.M.E Church in 1950. He actively participated in the Men's ministry, usher board and the Men's choir. For over 50 years, his faithfulness was uninterrupted until his illness prevented him from attending. One of the most memorable aspects of Bro. Kelly was his special smile and his gentlemanly ways of greeting folk. He always maintained good manners and good taste at all times. He was an avid traveler who loved to explore different modes of travel; such as cruises, bus tours and international excursions. He also enjoyed spending quality time with the family at cookouts and all of the holiday festivities. Allen loved sports, especially basketball and football. He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Donia Gipson; three daughters; Shirley Chambers, Janet Kelly and Karen Crayton, and son-in-law, Robert Crayton; seven grandchildren, Robert Chambers and wife Yolanda, Timothy Chambers, James Barksdale, Michael Barksdale, Lawrence Void Jr., Bryant Davis and Kellie Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Tameka, Timothy Jr., James Devon, Keon, Jasmine; nieces and nephews in Florida, Ray, Jerry, Howard, and wife Becky, George Jr. and wife Sandy, Earl, Claudine and husband Allen, Ida Mae, Catherine, Eloise, Deborah, Vivian, Bernice, Dale and husband Danny, Diane and husband Arthur, Juanita; sister-in-law, Ida; and other relatives and friends.
