Allan Jerome Reid Sr.

Our beloved Allan Jerome Reid, Sr., a retired detective with the Richmond Police Department, departed this life on May 20, 2017 after a second courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Richmond and predeceased by his parents, Virginia Rowland and Joseph Reid; grand-parents, Jake and Alice Jones, half-brother, Robert Robinson. Allan was baptized at an early age and later became a member of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church and where he previously served as the head of the security detail. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Allan joined the Richmond Bureau of Police in 1976. He took his job as a police officer seriously moving up to the rank of detective. He served as a detective in the Breaking & Entering Department and Homicide Department. He retired as a dedicated employee in 2001. Recreationally, his first love was bowling. After retirement, the second love was motorcycle riding with his buddies especially on charity rides. He truly loved his sons and was so proud of them and their male friends; because he loved seeing young men do positive things in their lives. The gifts of love he left behind will always be treasured. He leaves to cherish his memory sons, Allan Jerome Reid, Jr. (Tanika), Joseph Garfield Reid and step-son, Harry Brown, Jr. (Patricia); grandchildren, Allan Gabriel Reid and Kaila London French; step-grandsons, Javon and Jalen Brown and ex-wife and mother of his sons, Yvonne L. Reid. During his marriage to Yvonne, Allan became and remained close to her family especially to her nieces Venetia, Tonya, Maricia, and Monica who stills calls him uncle Allan, her parents, Garfield (deceased) and Mary Langhorn, sisters, April Armstead and Anna Mack (Ronald) and Yvonne’s fiancé, Rufus Cosby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Allan will be remembered as a man whose life mission was to become a better man of GOD, being a proud father, his service to the community and being a strong stand-up man. Allan received several awards of recognition from the Richmond Police department as well as from the St. Paul’s Church family while serving and protecting. “There is confidence in the thought that a loving God knows best.”
