Alice Loretta Palmer

Between the milestones of her birth n April 24, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Ella and Alexander Brown, Sr. and her home going on August 2, 2010, Alice Loretta Palmer, left footprints of a life brimming over with love and care for family and friends, with fortitude and laughter. She left her footprints in Sandtown where she spent her early childhood and teen years. Alice was the oldest of four inseparable siblings and always reminded them that she was #1. Her public education culminated at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Alice married her true love, Meade C. Palmer III (deceased). To their union were born five dearly beloved children. She left her footprints on her Christian walk. Alice came to know the Lord at an early age and was baptized at Union Temple Baptist where she sang and sang with the Choir #2. She later moved her membership to Evangelical Baptist Church were she enthusiastically served in the music ministry and Bible Study. After moving to her final residence in Silver Spring, MD, Alice became an active member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and participated in Sunday School. She left her footprints among children with special needs. Alice’s undying love for children led her to a career at Rosewood State Center that would span more than forty years. It afforded an opportunity for her to provide priceless and dependable service. This experience resulted in innumerable long lasting friendships that endure to this day! After retirement, Alice was again drawn to serve disadvantaged children and shared her love and genuine spirit with the young men at Fihankra Place under the auspices of Child and Family Service in Washington DC. The residents at the independent Living Service soon realized that Mrs. Palmer was the real deal and came to love her firmness, kindness, involvement and compassionate heart. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. She left her footprints as a volunteer. Alice was truly in her element as a volunteer at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was in an environment that demanded compassion, Gifted hands quick to assist, ears seasoned for listening and a heart prepared for freely giving. She was so excited to be on hand when the Senior Emergency Unit was inaugurated at Holy Cross- the first of its kind in the USA. She was instantly able to relate to the seniors and their unique needs especially in the emergency health care setting. She left her footprints as a multi role model. Alice will forever be remembered as the greatest Mother, adored Grandma, incomparable sister, dearly loved aunt, best friend, football-baseball Mom, greatest sister-in-law, throw down cook, dance machine, top notch roller skater, fashionesta, lover of the arts, world traveler, luscious gardener, constant encourager and yard sale guru. She left her footprints on the lives she touched. Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Artis and her daughter, Charlene Quarles. Most profoundly impacted by her passing and left to cherish her legacy of love are: four children, Patrice Palmer (Paul) Russell of Andover, MA, Joslyn (Kenneth) Dorsey of Baltimore, MD, Rodney Palmer of Atlanta, GA, and Meade C. Palmer, iv of Baltimore, MD; son-in-law, Steven Quarles, Sr.; brother Alexander (Joan) Brown, Jr. of Ellicott City, MD; three sisters, Barbara Manns (Mickey) of Eden, NC, Eleanor JoAnne (Clinton) Seller of Ellicott City, MD and Phyllis Render of Silver Spring, MD, nine grandchildren, Steven Quarles, Hakim Shumsudin (Jermaine), Kenneth Dorsey, Jr., Dorien Carter, Kennard Dorsey; Paul and Pauline Russell, Christain Slaughter and Jasmine Dorsey, Paul and Pauline Russell, Christian Slaughter and Jasmine Dorsey; two great-grandchildren, Stephan and Shanya Quarles; sister-in-law, Esther Jordan, Marie Gasseaway, Julia Perry and Shirley Hill, three brother-in-law; Leon Palmer, Louis Palmer and Fred A Hill, Sr., beloved nieces nephews, cousins and friends of gold.
