Alice Virginia "Doll" McLauren

Alice Virginia "Doll" McLauren of Richmond departed this life Saturday, June 30, 2018. She was born on March 8, 1945 in Cumberland County to the union of Francis and Rebecca Lee Winn, in which she was the eldest of five children. Alice was reared and educated in Cumberland County, Virginia. Her heartfelt desire to witness and respond tot he needs of others inspired her to become a trained healthcare aide for the elderly. Alice would offer spiritual and emotional comfort, including aid in supporting the activities of daily living to those who were often isolated and alone. From this training, Doll continued to provide the same care to the young and the old in her community, resembling the timeless voice of the past village elders who provided wisdom, guidance, empathy, sustenance and the 'hard' truth. In other, words, Doll 'told it like it T-I-is'! Doll's legacy was evident in her selfless compassion for others and in the magnitude of her family. Alice was a loving and dedicated mother, who often sacrificed her wants and needs for the wants and needs of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She embodied the characteristics of a true matriarch. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. It was her faith, strong will and loving family that sustained her in life through the moments of laughter, tears and pain. Alice was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Winn and Marshall Lewis Winn. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Timothy McLauren (Demetra), Anthony McLauren (Marvis "Penny), Rev. Henry McLauren (Deaette) and Demetrius McLauren; six grandchildren, Quintasha McLauren, LaShawnda Broaddus (Jermaine), Timothy Mclauren, Anthony McLauren, Antonio McLauren and NIkki Harris; six great grandchildren, Keishonna Johnson, Jermaine Broaddus, Anthony Q. McLauren, Antonio D. McLauren (AJ) and Antoine McLauren; two sisters, Gloria Wright and one devoted, Evelyn Johnson; one devoted aunt, Lula M. Johnson; a host of nieces and nephews, three devoted, Claretha Johnson, Shelia White and Reginald Johnson; numerous relatives and friends. As Doll looked beyond family by her bedside, her last words were: "I love all y'all. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Thank You, Jesus. God is Good!"
