Deacon Alfred Stanley Crump,Sr.

On Saturday evening, July 26, 2014, God in his infinite wisdom, called from earthly labor to a heavenly reward, our beloved, Alfred S. Crump, Sr. He was born to the late Harry and Gertie Crump on December 4, 1926. He was baptized at Mount Sterling Baptist Church at 13 years of age. In 1941, he moved his membership to Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He became a Deacon there in 1985. He was a former member of Mount Calvary Usher Board and served as Chairman of the Deacon Board until his passing. He was also a member of the Landfill Advisory Board, participated with the Charles City Young at Heart Club, and was the Election Officer for District III, Charles City County. He attended Ruthville High School in Charles City County. From there, he was drafted into the Army for 2 years where he laid his life during World War II. He then attended Virginia State College, now Virginia State University. While enrolled, he received a certificate in Automobile Mechanics. In 1981, he retired from the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia as a planner and estimator for guided missiles. When the schools were not integrated, he was one of the first to go to court and testify as to why there was not enough students attending certain schools in Charles City County. This allowed us opportunities that we did not have before. He always wanted the best for his children. Dad was a child and lived his life in a Christian manner. He always had something positive to say and was a faithful member of this great church. He was a person that did a lot for his family and friends. You could always depend on him. We know that he lived by the biblical verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. While growing up, our dad was there to support and guide us. He taught us to do things the right way and always stressed the importance of education. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, of 55 years, Louise Paige Crump. The union of Alfred and Louise produced 4 children. One of them died in infancy (Hollis). Survivors are Alfred S. Crump, Jr. (Annie Gail) of Charles City, VA; Rhonda Crump Williams (Kenneth) of Chesterfield, VA; and Kimberly Crump of Richmond, Va. Six grandchildren: Andrea and Allyson Crump, Azeron and Tiara Johnson, and Kenneth Williams, Jr. and one devoted grandson (Ross), in which he helped raise since birth and was a role model throughout his life. He is survived by one brother, Cecil Crump (Thelma); two sisters, Doris Parker and Bernice Whiting (Frank); two sisters-in-law, Lillian Crump and Hazel Kelly (Calvin) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
