Agnes M. Long

On Thursday, June 23, 2005, our Heavenly Father whispered into the ear of Agnes and said, "Come on Home and get your reward." Agnes M. Long, born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dock on November 25, 1905 in Winnsboro, South Carolina, was the fourteenth of sixteen children. Agnes married Earl Long in 1922 and they had three children - Earl E. Long, Jr., Mary Agnes Long-Carter and Clyde A. Long, all who preceded her in death. Agnes made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her. Agnes was always a true friend and a devoted person to her family. She always greeted you with a smile. In the moments that she called her own, she enjoyed spending quality time with family. Agnes loved to travel when she was able. She was a true fan of fashion and hats. Through her witness and encouragement, led by her faith and love of God, she would always give you a scripture to satisfy your soul. Agnes became a member of St. John A. M. E. Church under the Reverend Henri Tomlin. During the more than 60 years that Agnes was a member of St. John, she was a part of several choirs and organizations: the Senior Choir, the Cathedral Choir, Gospel Choir, Stewardess Board #3, Women's Choir, L. M. Tomlin, Pastor's Aide Society, Senior Citizens, and he One More Effort Club. She served under six pastors: Reverend Henri Tomlin, Reverend Harrison Bryant, Reverend Isaac M. Gracy, Reverend Joseph S. Grant, Reverend Benjamin Foust, and Reverend Maurice T. Wilson. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 27, and her favorite hymn was "My Faith Looks Up To Thee." Her favorite memory of all times is the #3 Stewardess Board's Annual Garden Party held in the back yard of the late St. John Member, Florence Bundick. On several occasions Sister Long was honored by St. John for her service in the church. Agnes leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: devoted daughter-in-law, Margaret; two grandsons, Earl Long and William Long; three granddaughters, Maxine Costello, Brenda Johnson and Madeline Long; and a host of great grandchildren even to great, great, great grandchildren. She lived to see five generations. A host of family and friends enjoyed her fiesty, loving, and caring ways.
