Agnes M. Jenkins

Agnes Jenkins, daughter of the late Harvey and Cornelia Jennings was born on May 26, 1933. She departed this life on August 22, 2003.On Friday, August 22, while the family was preparing to go to the family reunion in Charlotte Court House, Virginia, they thought Agnes Jenkins was also preparing to go with them. But, evidently God had shared his plan for her with her. She left the following messages in her home Friday morning before being taken to the hospital where she left this world to go home to be with the Lord: “So sorry I can’t be there with you, but may God be there with you and family. In memory of yours when the joys are still remembered but the sorrow has quietly gone there will always be a special place in the heart where love lives on.”She attended school in Charlotte County Virginia and she gave her life to Christ at and early age at St. Louis Baptist Church in Virginia. She was an active member of the Charlotte County Alumni Association of Baltimore, Maryland.Agnes moved to Baltimore in the late 1950’s. She was an active member of Southern Baptist Church for many years serving on the nurses unit and other auxiliaries. She later moved her membership to Ray of Hope Baptist Church. She loved her pastor and enjoyed traveling with her church family to different churches.She loved to travel and meet new people. If she could help anyone in anyway, she would. If you were down she would lift your spirit with an encouraging word. If you were crying she would make you laugh. Some of her sayings were “You Know” and Sugar” . Her family loved her and knew that she loved them and her friends. She was devoted to her family especially the triplets, her great granddaughters.Agnes Jenkins retired from Montebello State Hospital. She continued working part time at Kernan Hospital until her death. She was also a member of the NAACP and the retired chapter of AFMCE.She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, George Douglas Jenkins; her devoted daughter-in-law, Bettie Jenkins; two granddaughters, Yolanda (Nikki) Henriques, Sholanda Jenkins; four great granddaughters, one sister, Louise Alston of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, John Jennings of Washington, DC and Wallace Jennings of Baltimore, MD; two aunts, Lenora Willis of Brooklyn, NY and Elizabeth (Flozy) Wilson of Jamaica, NY. Two devoted friends, Annie Bailey and Otha Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.We Say To Our GrandmaTo know her was to love her, both family and friends, and the sweetness of her memory, time can never dim: the happiness we once enjoyed how sweet the memory still, but the death has left a loneliness the world can never fill; sleep on dear grandma and take your rest.
