Adolphus Louis Maples,Sr.

Our beloved Adolphus Lewis Maples, Sr.,(Dippy), was born on February 1, 1922 and passed peacefully into eternal rest with his family by his side of Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born in Orange County, Virginia and was preceded in death by his parents Julia B. and Andrew W. Maples; wife, Evelyn Faith Maples; son, Adolphus Maples, Jr.; brothers, Andrew, Jr.; Harold, Howard, Leroy; and sister, Gladys. Mr. Maples completed Orange County Elementary School and graduated from Saint Emma Military Academy High School in Rock Castle, Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics from Virginia Union University. His commitment to education excelled as he furthered his learning at Virginia State University, University of Virginia and James Madison University. His many endorsements included Secondary Guidance, Social Studies, Biology, English, General Science, Chemistry and 6-7 Elementary Education. Mr. Maples retired after 30 years of service as an educator and Guidance Counselor in Richmond Public Schools. Following the footsteps of his father, Mr. Maples proudly served in the United States Army, serving in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. His military background allowed him to travel all over the world, allowing him to receive an honorary discharge from the armed forces after serving in World War II. Mr. Maples’ love for travel expanded throughout his life. He was always packed and ready to travel with Faith, his wife and his traveling friends across the globe. He was eager to share his many experiences with anyone who would listen. Mr. Maples also enjoyed reading, sports, movies and playing cards. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, as he would say “making memories.” Adolphus Maples, Sr. (Dippy) was a loving and devoted husband to Faith for 62 years. He leaves to cherish his memories to loving and devoted children, Andrew Maples, Sr. (Dale) Sandra Maples Hubbard(George); six grandchildren whom he adored, Adolphus,III(Kaila), Rashida, Joy, Marques, Malcolm, and Andrew,Jr.; five great -grandchildren, Jaylen,Amory, Justin, Malek and Jordan; three sisters, Pauline Cornelius, Irma Lee and Doris Walker; brother, Roger Maples, a sister-in-law, Gladys Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and “adopted” grandchildren
