Ada Irene Johnson

God is truly full of Mercy and the Author of Peace. On September 13, 2005, Ada L. Johnson was chosen for a rewarding afterlife.“Sis,” as she was affectionately known to all, received her grammar school education at St. Peter Claver School. Next she attended the St. Francis Academy, Western High School before choosing a transfer to Carver High School. While there she became an active member of the student government and founding member of her sorority. Being chosen as Homecoming Queen was among a list of honors she received.After high school she worked as a nursing assistant at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore before beginning an extended career in what we now refer to as the field of high technology, Litton Industries.Next, she would enter the “Aunt Sis” Phase of her life. Beginning with her infant nephew Joseph she cared for a long list of infant children, nurturing them with love and affection usually reserved for ones very own children.In each instance she could be counted on to assist the parent in teaching life and social skills that would prepare them for preschool. Her ties to her children became a permanent one, in all cases. Seemingly none of the children could resist visiting her on birthdays and holidays. At later ages, and many times, they would make pop-up visits to remind her how much they truly loved their Aunt Sis.In one instance where she was too ill to have her child over for caring, the same toddler aged child was moved to escape for his grandfather and run nearly tow blocks (all alone) to check on Aunt Sis’s condition. The very best way to describe her would be as a gentle soul. While it is true that no one is perfect, few would argue that she was very special. Besides the children, she counted her husband and loving daughter as her chief concerns. The simple joys of life were most important. For years (during spring and summer) she and her husband were well known fixtures at the Inner Harbor. Regular visitors did not fail to notice the beautiful couple sitting in their favorite seat facing the water several nights a week.Her one birth child, Karen was always her motivating joy. In addition, she was for many years the hub for her immediate and extended family members. We will all miss her warm smile and the loving tome of her words of counsel and advice.She is survived by: her husband of thirty-six years, Kenneth Johnson; daughter, Karen Johnson; brothers, Gregory, Michael, Dennis, Charles and Bruce Wise; sister, Sharon Wise; nieces, Kotella, Jacqueline, Marisa, Alisha, Najihah, Shaneice, and Rhonda; nephews, Kyle, Michael, Gregory, Kareem, André Jr., Dawnay, Tyler, Kylrie, Gregory Bryant, Paul and Andrew; Aunt Sis’s kids, David, Michael, Manny, Gabrielle, Sammy and her “Justin” Hill.
