Walter S. Trezevant

Walter Seniar Trezevant, 92, of Ft Washington Md was born in Columbia, South Carolina on March 9, 1929. He was #10 of 12 children born to the late William Samuel Francis Trezevant, AME Minister, and Mary E. Seniar Trezevant, a midwife. He left this physical realm on Friday, May 7th, 2021 while in the hospital. Walter excelled rapidly in school and graduated from High School at the age of 15. He was awarded a full scholarship to Howard University in 1944, however, due to finances and the death of his mother, he discontinued his education. Walter journeyed to NYC and lived with siblings before enlisting in the US Army during WWII, where he played the trumpet in the Army band. He was honorably discharged with an Army Victory Medal. Upon returning home from military service, he moved to Cherry Hill, Md. where he purchased his first home at age 19, with a mortgage of $71 per month. Walter married his wife, Mildred (Maith) Trezevant while serving in the military and out of that union 4 children were born. He later married Pauline Nowak, from the DC area, and that union produced 3 children. Walter drove the Maryland Transit bus for 11 years and decided to return to his academic goals. He attended Morgan State University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in History in 1963. He was employed by the Federal Government, enrolled into their executive program, and advanced to the level of Division Chief with the International Trade Commission, and retired in 1993. Walter was a man of many interests which included travel, sports, music and politics. He was well read and appreciated fine cuisine. He also appreciated the ever evolving technological advancements and had many state-of-the-art gadgets. His computer was his first go-to-place each and every day. He was a long standing supporter of his Alma-Mater, Morgan State University, Wounded Warriors, and Doctors without Borders Foundations. Walter had one son that preceded him in death, Jerry Trezevant, and siblings Rudine Trezevant, Elise Camp, William (Bill) Trezevant, Ora Watkins, Dorothy Dean, Mary Zinnerman, Esther Trezevant, Jennie Gleaton, Muriel Trezevant, and Rebecca E. Copeland. He leaves to mourn his brother, Alphonso “Benny” Trezevant, his ever present niece, who was also his long-time neighbor, Dorothy “Melody” Eldridge. His sons, Walter Jr. (Anna), David, and Dr William Francis Trezevant, his daughters, Valerie Sheares, Christina T. McGriff, Elizabeth Wiseman, and Danielle Kenny (Kevin) with over 30 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
