Walter Langston Barnes

Walter L. Barnes, age 62, entered into eternal peace on June 28, 2016 at this residence. He was born on June 20, 1954 in Richmond, Virginia, the son of the late Robert Barnes and living mother Cora Lee Johnson. He was preceded in death by his fathers Robert Barnes and Reuben Johnson. He leaves his memories to be cherished by his devoted and loving wife, Sharon Renay Barnes; loving daughter Stephanie L. Barnes of Atlanta, GA;stepson,Shawndale R. Terry(LaShawnda);one granddaughter,Jada S. Terry; one Goddaughter Lashi Carroll-Jones; mother Cora Lee Johnson; three sisters, devoted Carolyn M. Brown(Fred),Francine Pleasant and Roxanne Wolf(Noel);two brothers, Gerald Barnes and Lloyd Johnson(Frances);one niece, Angela W. Hawkes; three nephews; Brian Morgan, John Morgan,III and Eldridge Willis; two great-nieces and one great nephew, one great-great nephew and a host of other relatives and friends, among them lifelong-Sarron Johnson, Curtis Robinson, Norman Crosby, Wayne Pritchard and Kenneth Randolph. His loving smile will be greatly missed. Walter's Life Story Where do you begin ...telling the life story of Walter Barnes in such a short message. Let's start with first being born to a loving family with three siblings and a mother that would do anything for her children. With his mom working three jobs to put food on the table, it gave Walter his work ethics. Walter at the age of nine developed Rheumatic Fever; and even though this may have weakened his heart, it did not weaken the care he has for others. He went back on several occasions to visit the sick In the hospital. During his adolescent age, he developed a neighborhood friendship with many, especially his backseat buddy Sarron, who traveled everywhere the family went. His home on 30th Street was the home of fun, good times and parties (plenty of parties). They also continued the partying at the Indian Acres camp ground. There were many jobs Walter did from construction (ackhammer};dump truck loader, toll booth collector, Reynolds, Philip Morris, his longest employer BMG of 18 years and finally security with RMC Events. To continue with his life story He met and married his first wife Sandra. From that union was born a beautiful baby girl, Stephanie. She was his heart and soul therefore when she was old enough, wherever you saw .Walter, you saw Stephanie. You would find them riding on a bicycle and Stephanie holding on tight when riding on his motorcycle. She loved her daddy and her daddy loved her. The accomplishments that have been made by Stephanie have been many, from graduating with honors, moving to another state and continuing her education. Stephanie has always known what she wanted out of life and not afraid to go get it. She made her father sooooo proud of her and that is the greatest gift a child can give a parent. Another proud moment for Walter was when his best friend Larry asked him to be the Godfather to his daughter Lashi. Even though the title said Godfather, his feelings for her were the same as if she was his daughter. He was just as proud of Lashi's accomplishment, the same as Stephanie. A new chapter in his life Walter met Renay strangely at a Friday night Concert at the Kanawha Plaza. He remembered her from a childhood event a long time ago when they were at a skateland party for school when she broke her wrist trying not to fall. She was totally amazed that he had remembered that event. After that day of meeting, they were never inseparable. They knew that this was a good thing and the strong love between them was the reason they married on October 7, 2000. With the unity of this marriage gave him a stepson, Shawn. Also with their' life came, joy, pain, suffering, hardship, recovery and most of all between the love there was always the laughter. Even though Stephanie and Shawn were not biological sister and brother, they had a strong bond and a love for each other. This made it easy for Walter's family to become as one. The other bright side In his life was his dog, Yancey. Wherever you saw Walter, you saw Yancey. Yancey was his comfort companion during his challenging times. In 2004, another sunshine came into his life,his, granddaughter, Jada. She gave him a greater appreciation of life. Their relationship was unbreakable. Her PAPA was her #1. His love of photography also gave him great joy and comfort. (Always had a camera in someone's facelll) The love that Walter and Renay shared was unlike any other. Many people saw the true friendship and partnership between the two. They could always count on each other for support. So many nights of laughter will be kept in her memory.
