Virginia Washington

Like a thief in the night, the Lord Jesus Christ saw it was time to come receive his daughter Virginia Washington, 78, and take her to her mansion in Heaven. She was called up to meet them in the air. Oh what a joy that is; she was met by her parents Morris and Martha Chambers, her husband David Lee Washington, her sister Susie Mae Higgins, her children Rebecca McClease, John Duncan, Luke Duncan, Jerry Duncan, and Joe Duncan, Jr. She leaves to cherish he memories four daughters: Ruth McAllister (Daryl) and Mary Washington of Baltimore, Maryland, Earlene Mazyck of St. Stephens, South Carolina, and Hazel Garvin of Charleston, South Carolina; three sons; David and Dennis Washington of Baltimore, Maryland and Sonny Duncan of St. Stephens, South Carolina; 28 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren, special friends: Mrs. Sally, Mrs. Jennie Riddick, Rev. Lillian Boyd, Sis Nelly Smith, Sis Hester Brown, Mrs. Peaches and Mrs. Theresa Givens and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Virginia was a faithful member of St. John Christian Community Church where she was on the Pastor’s Aid Committee, Mother of the Church, Usher Board, and Vocal Choir. She wanted to make sure that she made it to church before the church doors opened. Virginia Washington was educated in Augusta, Georgia, she worked as a nurse for over 33 years and she was employed by Meridian-Long Nursing home until her retirement 1994. “Wash”, as affectionately called, loves all of her children and grandchild-she was blessed with a Grandma’s Day where she was surrounded by all of her “babies”, as she affectionately called us. She loved watching different preachers and singers on her cable TV, reading her bible, sitting on the porch and reciting the Lord’s Prayer and/or the Psalm 23. She was a godly woman who taught all her children and their children to trust the Lord at all times. Her quiet spirit spoke volumes. Our matriarch has walked the miles to her heavenly home. Trust and believe, the only thing we can do is follow in her godly footsteps. Through it all she learned to trust in Jesus, through it all she learned to trust in God “Through it All”
