Virginia Dale Grissom-Grant

VIRGINIA DALE GRISSOM-GRANT was born on November 23,1927 to the late David and Margaret Grissom in Franklin County, NC. She peacefully departed this life on August 26, 2014. She received her education at G.C. Harley High School in Creedmoore, North Carolina. Virginia met and married the late Nathaniel Grant in Georgia and from that union two children were born, Barbara Jean Grant and one who preceded her in death, Michael Grant, whom she tirelessly cared for and loved until his death. Virginia moved to Baltimore, MD in the late 1950’s, where she met and fell in love with the late William “Billy” Chambers. Although Virginia worked several positions to support her family, her work as a child care provider was her favorite, and in later years, she took care of the elderly until she retired. Totsie, as she was affectionately called, enjoyed watching and listening to the Orioles Baseball games. She also loved gardening, cooking (everyone loved her cooking), and she was very passionate about her family and God. Virginia joined The Second Antioch Baptist Church in March 1988. She became the President of the Usher Board and served for many years until she was no longer able to serve in that position. As a result, she was appointed Usher Board President Emeritus. Virginia was extremely close and devoted to her family, which included her five siblings, two of whom preceded her in death, Stella Mae Jones and Daniel Grissom. Virginia had a very special bond with her grandson, Gerald Grant, whom she loved and adored. Virginia leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Barbara Grant; daughter-in-law, Leah Mason-Grant; two brothers, Thomas (Dorothy) and Willie (Barbra) Grissom; one sister, Ida Lee Grissom; one grandson, Gerald (Ramona) Grant; two granddaughters, Tamara Grant-Scott (Kenneth), Jacqueline Grant; five great-grandchildren, Ta-Juan and Brittany Grant, Kenneth and Nyla Scott and Riley McCaIlum; a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and dear friends. Not to be forgotten are the endearing adults who she cared for that continued to show their love as adults until she departed, her neighborhood family who cared so deeply for her, and her church family at Second Antioch Baptist Church.
