Vernon Lee Oliver

VERNON LEE OLIVER known as (Nookie) was born to Evelyn Latham and Leonard Oliver on November 26, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life suddenly on January 1, 2024. Vernon was a member of New Metropolitan Baptist Church for a while. He served on the usher board which he enjoyed doing until he developed knee issues in 2005. Vernon received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1974-1988. Vernon was employed with Bethlehem Steel from 1967-2005. Also, Baltimore Marine Industries Inc. Vernon followed his father’s footsteps to the shipyard with a smile. Vernon and Lorraine were joined in Holy Matrimony on May 15, 1967, and from this union one child Charmaine was born. He called Charmaine “Baby” all through her life and she was his heart and soul. Vernon was a diehard true Ravens fan and was looking forward to the Super Bowl this year. Vernon loved to travel. He enjoyed traveling to all of the Caribbean Islands as well as Paris. Vernon’s favorite pastimes included playing pinochle, eating crabs and watching the Price is Right, The Three Stooges and Western movies. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Vernon was a member of the Ivy Center Eating Together Program sponsored by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Epsilon Omega Chapter. While in the program Vernon was presented with an Outstanding Service Award in 2015. Vernon enjoyed eating but one thing he enjoyed the most was fried chicken. Fried chicken was a daily treat for him. He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Oliver and his father Leonard Oliver, his sister Mildred Oliver and brother Milford Oliver. Vernon leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely wife, Lorraine Dolberry Oliver; daughter, Charmaine Chapman; brother, Victor Oliver (Sheila); two granddaughters, Chelsey Chapman and Channon Chapman; three great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Bernice Thomas, along with a host of relatives and friends. My Dearest Husband, these 57 years have been world-wind of love and laughter and good times. I will cherish our memories forever in my heart. Love, Your Wife Lorraine
