Vanessa L. Mickey

VANESSA LEE MICKEY, the beloved daughter of the late Robert L. Mickey and the late Dorothy Lee (Gary) Mickey, was born on June 7, 1955 in Baltimore, Md. She departed this life on March 6, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Vanessa attended and was educated in Baltimore City Public School. She was well known by her peers who lived in East Baltimore. She handled all her affairs with discretion and dare you to get in her personal business. The look that she gave you was priceless. As the family reflects, it is no doubt that her parents imparted the knowledge of what it meant to lead a Christian life. It is evident in how she raised four boys to become the finest young men they are today. Fondly called Nessa or Ma Ma by her loved 9ones, she always made herself available to feed you one of her home cooked meals which included a full course meal and homemade cakes. You would have thought that she was from the south. Her feisty personality attracted you to love her unconditionally. She loved to laugh but when it was time for you to go home she would kindly let you know in her own unique way that your time was winding down. She was a lover of nature as you can see when you walked into her living room or her backyard maintained by her nephew (Greg) and see the most beautiful greenery. Nessa would make sure that you went home with a piece of her plant which no doubt reminded you of her generosity. Nessa held various retail job responsibilities and could share with you where all the sales were around Baltimore. She loved to shop the 'old fashioned' way through all the clearance racks . Back in the day, she and her big sister (the late Geraldine) would walk from the 1100 block of Brentwood ave. down to Gay street with anticipation to shop until they dropped. Later in her years Nessa continued her shopping sprees with cousin (Annette) or her godsister (Wilma) going to the malls or shopping centers spending hours looking for that diva outfit. In her later years, right from her dining room she acts as the spokesperson to sell creat8ive items made by her niece (Cheryl). Her youngest sister (Yolanda) became a strong supporter I being her personal shopper when Nessa was unable to do so. You see she brought out the attribute in all of us by finding opportunities to make someone's life a little easier while helping us develop our retail and bargain skills. Vanessa had three sisters who preceded her in death, Michelle Dixon, Cherelle Mickey, and Geraldine Missouri. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Michael w. Mickey, Kevin Mickey, Dwayne (Kenya) Mickey; four sisters, Tracie Mickey, Celestine Mickey, Jerrietta (Christopher) Braswell, and Yolanda Mickey; three brothers, Robert Mickey, Fulton(Dean) Mickey, and Rodney Mickey; one brother in law, Charles H. Missouri; six grandchildren, Joshua Mickey,Taylor Mickey, and Jahkai Mickey, Jaden Mickey, Nickeria Mickey and Maklah Mickey; great grandchildren, Ayden Mickey; special niece, Cheryl Missouri and two special nephews, Joseph Scott and Gregory Missouri; two special cousins, Annette Howell and Patti Byrd; god sister, Wilma Murchison; devoted friend, Betty Harrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
