John 14.2 (KJV) Thomas Terry, Jr. was born to Thomas Terry, Sr. and Sarah Terry on April 5, 1958, in East Orange, New Jersey. As a child, he showed an interest in bowling, cycling and cars. A great deal of his childhood was spent exploring New Jersey as well as New York on his bicycle. In his teenage years, he would go on to graduate from East Orange High School and pursue additional education in Artist Design at Arts High. He also studied at the Lincoln Institute for mechanics for a short time. He began working at General Motors as a young man where he would learn to hone his skills to become a professional automotive painter. Thomas met the love of his life Janell and after a few years of dating, they married. They went on to have two children from their union; Amber and Jordan to join his three children from a previous marriage. Thomas moved to Chesterfield, Virginia in 1990. He was employed as an automotive painter at several reputable establishments until he decided to start his own business Auto Paint by Terry, where he was quite fulfilled by his endeavors in serving the public. He was a well-respected man that worked hard and took pride in his work. Thomas loved the Lord and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Virginia under the leadership of Rev. Darryl G. Thompson. Some of Thomas’ proudest and most important roles were being a husband, father, and son. Nothing was more important to him than his family including German Shepherd Vader. He was also an avid car enthusiast. During any given weekend you could find him at a cruise in or car show where he was relaxing in his chair right beside his 1955 Chevy Nomad which he restored with his father. Thomas Terry was called home on June 4, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memory beloved wife, Janell Holmes-Terry; daughter, Amber Terry; son, Jordan Terry; mother, Sarah Terry; sister, Joann Terry-Fails (Michael); sister-in-law, Sherolynn Ingraham-Coleman (Roosevelt); brother-in-law, Jake Holmes, Jr.; niece Mijo Fails; his favorite cousin, Yolanda Brown and a dear Goddaughter, Tamia Warren; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thomas touched so many lives, too numerous to name. His legacy will be forever remembered.
