Shirley P. Womack

WOMACK, SHIRLEY PECOLIA MOULDEN, heard the soft voice of Jesus and departed this earth on July 27, 2011. Shirley was the first born to the union of Mary E. Garrett Moulden and the late George M. Moulden on May 31, 1948. She was the eldest of eight children. She was also the granddaughter of the late Mary Downs Sharps of Annapolis, Maryland; and Joseph Garrett of Drury, Maryland; Adline and Thomas Moulden of Edgewater, Maryland, and step-granddaughter of William Sharps. Growing up in Arundel County, outside of Annapolis, Maryland, Shirley attended Parole Elementary in Annapolis, Maryland and was graduated from Jones Elementary School in Jones, Maryland. She later was a graduate of Wiley H. Bates High in Annapolis, Maryland in 1966. She furthered her education and received an A.A. Degree in Accounting from The Baltimore Institute, a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Morgan States University and an M.A. Degree in Theology from St. Mary’s University and Ecumenical School in 1992. Shirley found the Lord at an early age and gave her life to Christ at the Moriah A.M.E. Church in Annapolis, Maryland, and she re-dedicated her life to Christ in May 1979 at The New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where she faithfully served. Although Shirley’s passions included bowling, traveling, especially to Paris, Loudon and the Bahamas, Church came first. She showed her love for the Lord through service in the preaching ministry, for which she was licensed as a minister in October 1991, under Bishop Walter Thomas, Sr. She also performed service in the teaching ministry; service on the choir for ten years; service in the Wellness Support Ministry and service as the Facilitator of the Cancer Support Group of the New Psalmist Baptist Church, which she founded in 1996. Actually, Shirley served wherever she was needed. She was saluted by the Cancer Support Group and received certificates from the American Cancer Society and the Breast Awareness Foundation. Affectionately known as Rev. Womack and “Wo”, she continuously aided in helping people through hard times, whether cancer related or not. She firmly believed that her mission was to Spread the Gospel and to help the helpless and give hope to the hopeless. Shirley’s professional years were spent as an accountant-auditor and other fiscal position with The State of Maryland from 1968 until 1990 at Morgan State University and Coppin State College. She was a Real Estate Agent for a brief period. Shirley was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor from 1990 until 2007, from which she retired. Perhaps, she will be remembered best for the following characteristics that she vividly displayed throughout her life: loving, caring, unselfish, quiet, and unassuming, (most of the times she made us include that one), loyalty to family, friends and strangers, dedicated and devoted to God, a willingness to do her best on the job and one who not only dreamed dreams, but one who lived them and encouraged others to do the same. With the passing, Shirley leaves a legacy of love, religious guidance and adventure to her mother, Mary E. Garrette Moulden of Baltimore, Maryland; daughters, Danielle M. Womach (John) of Tucson, Arizona and Twyla L. Womack (Kenneth) of Carterville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Dominique N. Salter of Atlanta, Georgia; Klera J. Scott of Cartersville, Georgia; Latecia A. Turner of Cartersville, Georgia; siblings, Christine L. Moulden Martin (Tine) of Winsor Mill, Maryland; Georgia T. Moulden, Sr. (Junior) of Havre de Grace, Maryland; Joseph C. Moulden, Sr., (Carlton) of Baltimore, Maryland; Carla L. Moulden Ellerbe (Net) of Winsor Mill, Maryland; Gerald e. Moulden (Rard) of Baltimore, Maryland; Marlin A. Raikes of Baltimore, Maryland; Mark A. Ellicott, of Baltimore, Maryland; and also, Michael Moulden, Michelle Moulden of Annapolis Maryland; and Anthony Moulden of Baltimore, Maryland; 3 sisters-in-law, Penelope (Penny) Moulden, Roselle (Rose) Moulden and Elizabeth (Donna) Gantt; 1 special brother-in-law, James Ellerbe of Winsor of Winsor Mills, Maryland; 1 great aunt, Frances Owens of Edgewater, Maryland; 5 aunts, Alice Brown of Edgewater, Maryland; Frances Coates of Lanham, Maryland; Katherine Blake Scott, Ernestine Blake Green, (Larry) of Annapolis, Maryland; and Martha Ellen Moulden of Edgewater, Maryland; 10 uncles, Thomas Blake, Sr., Henry Blake, Sr., (Aunt Margaree); John Blake, Sr., James Blake, George Blake, Sr., Carolester); Douglas Blake, Sr., all of Annapolis, Maryland; Leon Moulden of Edgewater, Maryland; Charles Garrette. Edward Garrette, and Melvin Garrette all of Lothian, Maryland, together with a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Minister Womack was formerly married to Garry L. Womack of Annapolis, Maryland.
