Sammie Mae Robinson

SAMMIE MAE ROBINSON, the sixth of ten children was born to the late John Simon and Sallie Mae Tompkins on September 30, 1929 in Bullock County, Al. This is also where she received her education. Six of her siblings preceded her in death. She transitioned this life Friday, February 19, 2016 after a lengthy illnes. Sammie Robinson was married to the late Elie Lawrence Robinso, Sr. They were the parents of six children, two of whom (Bruce and Elie) preceded her in death. Mother Robinson was baptized in Jesus name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Bishop Samuel Hancock at Bethlehem Temple Church in Detriot, MI Upon moving to Baltimore, MD in the late 50's she, her husband and children became faithful members of St. Matthew Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Grace White. She was also a member of the Eastern and Southern States Council of the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith. Mother Robinson enjoyed and did not mind traveling long distance via airplane, bus, or cars, She had great love for both her natural and spiritual families. She displayed much joy and pride when her two preaching brothers, Bishops Eugene and Joseph Tompkins came to Baltimore to run revivals at her church. If one visited her home, she would happily show the many pictures of her family and could remember names, dates, and events with remarkable precision for a woman of her age. She kept an immaculate house and always brought her children to church well fed and spotlessly clean. They were well mannered. No one had to speak to hem for misbehaving in church because they were well mannered due to the strict upbringing of their mother as long as they were under her jurisdiction. Her sincere desire was for all children to be saved and serve the Lord. Even with many physical challenges, she remained a strong, self -sufficient and independent woman who knew what she wanted and spoke her mind. Even though she endured sickness and sustained numerous injuries, she yet maintained her strength without complaining, but would say, “thank God it is as well as it is.” Two of her passions were her love for Sunday school and Bible class. She wanted her Sunday School book even when she was unable to attend church. This well-groomed, self-sufficient, independent woman was so glad to be asked to work in the Sunday School Department and to serve on the Missionary Board. She performed her duties with faithfulness and joy. She just didn't take charge of her job, but she claimed personal ownership for her new position. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Deborah Ann Miracle (Billy Ray) and Katherine Leonard (Alvin P.); two sons, James Collins and Phillip Lewis (Malieka); two sisters, Ruth Sherrod (John), and Mertis Nunnally; one brother, Bishop Joseph Tompkins (Beth); fifteen grandchildren, Shawn, Keenan, James, Jason, Brittany, Ashley, Samuel, Emmanuel, Phillip, Jr., Jessica, Bruce, Ferlanda Kae, Melissa, Billy Ray, Jr., Kim; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Louis, Amori, Evann, Amiyah, Brittany, Hannah, Amber, Billy Ray III, Harlan, Bethany, Emmanuel, Jr., Elayna, Elizabeth, Nechie, Shaquita, Elijah, Candice, Ibrahim, Muhammad, Musa, Maryam, Yusuf, Dillon, Dominic; two special nieces, Iretha Tompkins and Janice (Pat) Eubanks; a host of other relatives, friends and spiritual sisters and brothers in Christ.
