Ruffet W. Cousar

Ruffet W. Cousar, son of the late Wesley Carolina and Mary Wells Cousar, was born August 29, 1942, in Lynchburg, South Carolina. He departed this life September 11, 2004.In 1962, he completed his education, graduated from Eastern High School in Sumter, South Carolina, and shortly thereafter, relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. After relocating, Rufus worked as a mechanic apprentice for a brief period of time at Westport Exxon, he later explored a short-lived career in the field of carpentry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In search of fulfilling a desire and love for the profession of automotive mechanics and services, Rufus returned to Westport Exxon until the final closing of its doors; it was this event that led this young entrepreneur to establish the business we know today as Rufus Service Station in Cherry Hill.As a youth, he attended Mt. Sinai A. M. E. Church, Lynchburg, South Carolina, and recently rededicated his life to Christ and has been faithfully attending and growing spiritually at Hemingway A. M.E. Church, Baltimore, Maryland.Rufus loved life and loved people’ he was affectionately described by many as a gentle, loving, caring, and selfless individual who was indeed loved by all –family, friends and importantly, the Cherry Hill community of Baltimore, he was a stranger to no man and made numerous friends wherever he went. Everyone who knew him will sadly and sincerely miss him. He was always a true friend and a devoted family man and leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory: Three daughters, Linda (Luke) McCray, Olanta, South Carolina, Tarah (R J) Johnson, Charleston, South Carolina, and Lisa Nichols, Baltimore, Maryland; three sons, Gerald (Cynthia) Couser, Kevin (Tessa) Couser, and Darrell Couser-Farrar, Baltimore, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Luke Jr., Brandon , Ashley, Tavon, Chavis, Shavon, Kevin, Alexis, Bishop and Rufus; two sisters, Betty (Willie B.) Brown and Dianne (Ronnie) Jackson, Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Carolina Cousar, Jr., and Bennie Thomas (Carolyn), Baltimore, Maryland; ten aunts, four uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
