Richard A. McCray

On December 13th, 1952 the Lord blessed Jeff McCray and the late Renna McCray with their only son, Richard Allen McCray, who after a brief illness suddenly passed away on March 13th, 2012 at University of Maryland Hospital. As a child Richard attended Baltimore City Public Schools in the Cherry Hill district. He graduated from Cherry Hill #180 and immediately went on to work with his father at R.H. Shook Construction. This is when Richard gained a love for carpentry. In 1987 Richard took Zelda McCray’s hand in marriage. In Genesis 2:24 God said “…a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh”. Richard and Zelda were just that, one. Richard did not have children of his own, with that said, he was blessed with five nephews that he loved dearly and loved to share with. With his nephews he would share all of the things that he was interested in from a child all the way through to his untimely passing. To know Richard was to know the guitar and rock and roll. He loved listening to Jimi Hendrix and playing his electric guitar. “Rick’ as he was affectionately known by in the Glen Burnie area loved to walk the neighborhood. While passing through he never came upon a stranger. He would speak and or wave to every person he passed. On one of his daily walks Richard came across Empowering Believers Church. This is where he worshipped and began to rekindle with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As apart of his daily routine he walked to the local 7-Eleven and got himself a cup of coffee. Richard had one of the loudest craziest laughs you ever heard. It was so distinct, that if you were not in the room and heard the laugh you knew it was Richard Allen. Richard Allen has left and gone on to Glory. Left to carry on his stories and play his electric guitar is his wife of 25 years Zelda McCray, his father Jeff McCray, three sisters Mary Lee Ford (Levern) of Glen Burnie, Md. and Eartha Mae Pierce (Edward) of Pasadena, Md. and Shawnette McCray, seven nieces and nephews; Rita Scott (Marvin Miller), Damion Ball (Christina), Nicole Swann (William), Marvin Allsup, Sr. (Ashley), Lydell Lee, Steven Lee and Ste rling Lee all of Maryland. He also leaves seven aunts, five uncles, thirteen great nieces or nephews and a cousins and friends to carry on his legacy of love, peace and rock and roll.
