Oliver Leon McCaffity

Oliver Leon McCaffity Jr. was born on May 11, 1973 to Oliver Leon McCaffity Sr. and Ada L. McCaffity at University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Oliver was suddenly sent a pair of wings from heaven on Thursday, February 28, 2002. Oliver was fondly known by his family as “Tinkie” (a nickname given to him at birth). He inherited the family trade name “Woody” (the name acknowledged by his friends) from his uncle who preceded him in death. Oliver received the first few years of his education at Holly Hill Elementary School in Daytona Beach, Florida. He completed his education at Forest Park Senior High School of the Baltimore City Public school System. Woody was very athletic. He enjoyed every moment of his life he spent playing, or watching sports. You could hear the sound of joy in his voice when he would be indulged in a conversation about sports with another individual. His greatest love of all sports was basketball. He loved it so much that his heart led him to become superior junior coach for the little league basketball team at The Robert C. Marshall Recreation Center. He made a tremendous impact on the youth that he coached, mentally and physically. The recreation personnel, parents, and team members all commended Woody for the time he sacrificed to work with the young boy, and highly applauded him for his athletic skills as well. But, as strong as his love of basketball was, it could not compare with the love he had for his mother, children and family. He was a very family-oriented person. He had a very special and uniquerelationship with his mother. The two of them seemed inseparable at times. Tinkie grew up in the home with his cousins, Ronaldo and Andrea, and they both looked up to him as their big brother. The family and anyone who knew them could see the kind of bond they possessed. Woody met the love of his life Towanda Grant (Tonya) and immediately they formed a loving and caring relationship. They were blessed to have each other and it showed in every aspect. Some people like flowers, well Tinkie and Tonya loved pictures, and if you didn’t know them, you could see the love and happiness in the photos of them and their children when you entered their home.Oliver’s memory will be cherished by his father Oliver Leon McCaffity Sr.; mother, Ada L. McCaffity; wife, Towanda Grant; daughter, Kaneshia McCaffity; godson, Tiree (Tank); grandfather, Leroy Joiner; stepmother, Francine McCaffity, mother-in-law, Lee Harris; father-in-law, Bobby Grant; two brothers, Quincy Alford and Aaron McCaffity; two brothers-in-law, Michael Talley and Henry Richardson; two sisters, I’Dreamer and Ariel McCaffity; one sinter-in-law, Josette Powell; two great uncles, John “Ray” Anthony and Richard Solomon; five great aunts, Ethel Turner, Mable Larkin Stokes, Gloria Anthony, Annie Brown and Ruby Solomon; three uncles, Tony McCaffity Sr., Joseph McCaffity Jr., and Joseph “Chop” Floyd; four aunts, Minister Janice Edwards, Ann Clark, Ethel Kingwood and Karen Kingwood; two devoted and special friends, Desmond “Desi” Dickey and Joseph Reed; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
