Nannie O. Braxton-Smith

Nannie Olivia Braxton Smith entered this life on June 18, 1925 in White Stone, Virginia to the late James Leo Braxton and Gertrude Elizabeth Emerson Braxton. Nannie was the third of their four children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isadore Smith, and her siblings: William K. Fitzgerald, Rosa L. Gillis and Altomease Pinkard. Early in life Nannie's parents taught her the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to love and respect others. Nannie lived out those teachings in her expressions of love for God and her fellow man. Her Christian foundation grew as member of St. Paul M.E. Church in White Stone, VA. She was educated in the Virginia Public Schools relocating to Baltimore, Maryland to attend Morgan State College (Morgan State University) where she earned her Bachelor's degree and did graduate studies in English and French. Nannie met and married the love of her life, Isadore Smith and from this union had two sons, Robert and Brian. Throughout her 32 year career as a teacher in Baltimore City Public School System, she was known for being the teacher who cared and shared with all. She was proud to be a member of Eastern United Methodist Church where she cheerfully served on the finance committee, staff parish and administrative council. In 2009, Nannie relocated to Lake Park, Florida with her niece/daughter and her husband, Barbara & Kenneth Pembamoto. Her favorite activities there were solving "WORD puzzles and traveling with the family that included annual trips to California to visit her grandchildren & their parents, going to the annual family reunions in Baltimore, multiple cruises to the Bahamas and trips to Atlanta, Ga. and to the Holy Land in Orlando, Fl. She joined Revival Church of God and served as one of the Mothers of the Church. Nannie enjoyed being a part of the active senior community, participating in various programs through the years. Nannie O. Smith transitioned to be with the Lord on May 11, 2019; she leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Robert & Brian (Stephanie), granddaughters, Brianna and Brittany, niece/daughter, Barbara Pewmbamoto, beloved Sr. Cousin Gladys Braxton Ball, beloved caregiver, Donna Fomby, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, and cousins.
